I am thinking of getting one, but am not sure which one to get. One of my friends has an ipod, and two others have irivers (which are said to be better, according to the reviews on Amazon).

I have also seen this one though which I much cheaper than both.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=91360&item=5763346120&rd=1

And this one looks pretty cool too.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=91360&item=5763317160&rd=1

So can anyone offer any advice/recommendations on what to get? I want around 20gb ideally.

Yeah, the iriver was one i was considering too. I like the memory slot too. I was hoping it'd be the same card as my camera, then i could get a big card for both, but alas it's different.

Unless i get a new camera. =P

irivers don't need special software to transfer/sort files. You just drag and drop. Easy.

Well I'm gonna pick up a Shuffle tomorrow and give it a whirl.

Stay away from the Sony - when you transfer MP3's over, it 'converts' them, changing them slightly...securing them, so you can't share them.

I'll let you know if i come across that unit i liked.

Seems like everything uses software to transfer/organize the files. Annoying.

I'm liking the new Sony Network Walkman though: http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=1001279&navigationPath=n46881n32124

Still leaning towards a Shuffle though, but I don't like the shuffle thing.

Yeah..i'm looking for something similar..

* 512-1gb memory
* replaceable battery
* no software required! Acts like external USB drive

Don't need radio, recording, etc..i think there's a Samsung that fits the bill, saw it in a flyer.. I'm looking for something small for my training rides (usually 3-4 hours in the saddle.)

I currently in the market for something for wokking out (running, stationary bike, etc). From the looks of things, flash memory is the way to go. So do I get and iPod shuffle? Maybe a Creative MuVo? Network Walkman?

Today I read a lot of review (very good reviews from users) and I think I'll go for H340,It has all that I want, mainly the mic and fm radio plus 40GB :P, many thanks!!!

Saludos
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 06/28/2005 : 14:01:10
No the H340 can play in order of artist, album or file. I prefer the file option personally. You arrange it how you want on your PC. Plus you can upgrade the firmware so that it plays movies/music videos/porn whatever the hell you want.

I don't know who told you that about the track order of the CD but they were talking rubbish.

It also looks very nice and has an FM tuner and a record function so you can record internally or externally. I use it to record guitar parts sometimes and you can also record from it's radio or from any external device (yes, even vinyl).

It's the best portable MP3 player out there at the moment. It holds around 10,000 songs but the H320, which is 20GB, holds around 5,000.

mm seems that H340 it's better than creative...but suport folders?? Could I drag and drop folders into H340 and the device will play only the songs of the folder??

Thanks for your advices!
ccuadros Posted - 06/28/2005 : 07:54:48
Homer, you make me doubt!!do you have that?, can you change the battery?

I read in some forum that the iriver can't play an album in the track order on the CD, and the H340 always plays back alphabetically, it's true??
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 06/28/2005 : 05:53:42
My comment is get an iriver H340. They are the best.

I'm thinking about buy a Creative Zen Touch with 40GB, any comments??
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 04/11/2005 : 05:45:41
The H340 is a 40GB iriver MP3 player. It's pretty much the best that money can buy right now. You can upgrade the firmware so that it plays movies. It has a tuner, which you can record from, a microphone so you can use it as a dictaphone and it displayes photos too. It's bloomin' fantastic!

I ened up buying a 256mb rio forge. I paid 89 dollars off of overstock but bought a 1GB chip which cost 109.00 The thing is perfect for my jump roping I'm doing in my house everynight. I've only had it since Friday and my neighbors are already starting to smile again. I've been torturing them for months now. Now I will probably get an Ipod as well. What's this H30 Monkey?

Well I got my H340 on Friday after work. It's a smart piece of kit, very impressive. I have been sticking songs on it all weekend and I am still no way near the end of my collection. I think I have about 1500 at the moment. Only another 8500 to go.

You can do it on your's too Benji, you just need to upgrade your firmware. I think it may be 1.17 or soemthing like that. Someone on Amazon mentions it in their review. Check out the iriver website to find out more.

Benji, you have talked me into it, I am getting the H340 instead of the H320. Actually it was more down to me doing a rough count of my record collection. I also want to put some films on there.

interesting. any idea if it will support .aac files? that's my main criterion right now, since i use iTunes.
El Barto Posted - 04/06/2005 : 09:30:20
iRiver is coming out with a 20GB version of the H10, which I most definitely will trade for. It's such an awesome player. It should be out in the US within the next couple of months.

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.

ah you're right:

"AAC was developed by the MPEG group that includes Dolby, Fraunhofer (FhG), AT&T, Sony, and Nokia"

PixieSteve Posted - 04/05/2005 : 10:11:08
i don't think apple created aac

I'm in the same boat as HPM. Would like a good player at least 20gb that is cheaper than the iPod and possibly with more features.

But I use iTunes so I need a player that can play .aac and .m4a. I'm not sure if the iPod is the only player that reads .aac (since Apple created .aac).

HPM, let me know what player you end up getting. Post your review of it.
benji Posted - 04/05/2005 : 00:31:00
they say 10000 for a 40GB one. i've got 6GB left on mine and it's got just over 6000 songs on therre. it was full, but i took off lots of crap that i really don't want.
i have less songs cause i have quite a number of rather long songs on there.

all depends on how big your music collection is mike.

Really? Do you have a lot of photos on it too? Or movies? Don't those ones hold something like 15000 songs?

Thansk Benji. Do they have actual stores in the US, 'cos hopefully I won't be buying it online, but direct from the shop (via a friend)?

So how are you finding the H340?
