I'll second that (dry sockets = world of pain).

All I can say is, try and find yourself a Dr. Nick, kitty.
If you don't need the drugs for pain, at least they'll help you sleep.
and, uh, study.

It can go pretty smoothly (mine did), but I remember my sister getting dry socket (whatever that means) and being in a lot of pain.

My wisdom teeth started coming in 4 or 5 months ago. I got them pulled out just a little while ago. As you've made clear, they hurt like hell when they come in, but the procedure for getting them out was painless. The worst part is the taste of blood in your mouth for a while afterwards - oh, and bits of food getting stuck in the holes; that's really fucking annoying.

I just used the gas..I don't even remember what happened. I remember getting the shots in my mouth, then having the mask put on. Next thing I know I'm waking up in my bed at home. I remember a couple noises and a little bit of discomfort..but even then..it's only a faint memory..I don't remember when I had those feelings.

When you do get them out..I wouldn't worry about it at all. I was very pleasantly surprised by how easy and painless it was.

I had never had a tooth pulled either - and it wasn't so bad. The worst part was the noise of it (the fact that it is coming from INSIDE YOUR OWN HEAD was very bizarre to me) and I cried. But, when you cry at the dentists - they really feel bad and are super nice to you. Also, for the absessed tooth I was put under so that was lovely.

thanks surfer, I love cloves so that'll be no hardship (i've got that fabulous blue and purple two tone clove mouthwash that I'm addicted to)

Thanks Daisy for the positive vibes, it certainly hurts less today. I'm more tempted to ride it and see if it goes away, I've never had a tooth pulled (never had a cap/crown/filling thing) and I don't really wish to start!

Obfuscate, thats so cool, do you still have them? are wisdom teeth big ones?

my mum has some of my baby teeth but she won't give me one in case I try voodoo on it, she makes me laugh.

I had all four of mine removed when I was 15 or 16.

Terrible. Housebound for a week. Swollen for another week.

Doctor gave me the teeth, though.

Cloves - if you can take the taste that is. Old wives/hippy remedy.

I've got two that appear and then dissappear - absolute bloody agony when they do - I've got tonnes of space in my mouth it's the cutting through the gums that's a real bitch.

You want it all but you can't have it.

I've got 3.5 grown in. I have a little bit of soreness every few months, but it lasts a week or so. The dentist tried to get me to get them removed last year, but I was like "what's the point?" They're not really bothering me.

1. I am a fsh with no i's.
2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different.
3. I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb.

Sweetie, I hope you feel better soon!! I have heard that hurts! Mine were removed so I don't have any advise.... but I am sending you positive thoughts that you feel better real soon!!!!!

I recall having 6. The doctor cut out parts of my jawbone to reach the last two, since they grew inside my bone and impacted a nerve. Fucking migraines.

And yes I relate to an unevolved state. Devo indeed.

oh booooo

I had hoped it would sort of go away if I used bonjela and gargled salty water or something. But it's 3.37am and I can't lie down so I guess I'm going to have to go try find a free dentist tomorrow. Trust me to wait to get tooth problems AFTER I move to a city where I don't have a dentist friend.

Have you gone to the dentist? You may need to have them taken out. I had all four removed (two on top and two on the bottom is four) - and it wasn't as bad as everyone says it will be. The worst was the one that pushed through first became absessed and that is a risk you take if you don't get them removed.

Also, if it is already super painful (and you said it was killing you, so I am guessing - YEAH, super painful) it may be absessed and you should get it checked out.

Wisdom teeth are to do with evoloution. The less evolve you are - the more teeth you have!

quote:
We should probably blame evolution (and migration) for the problems we might have with wisdom teeth.

Ancient humans had larger jaws and larger teeth than modern humans – maybe because we don’t need to chew as much nowadays.

Some people don’t develop wisdom teeth at all, which might show that we are at a transitional stage in evolution (they might not be ‘more evolved’ in other respects than those who need to have their wisdom teeth removed).

I've had 5. 4 were removed in 1 day and then years later another tiny showed up. I still have that one and my dentist is pushing me to have it removed.
PixieSteve Posted - 03/14/2005 : 16:31:07
don't worry, i probably won't hold it against you.

Oh yeah, sorry about that. Four, not two. My bad.

i say be a woman and take the pain. wisdom doesnt come for nothing.
mosleyk Posted - 03/14/2005 : 16:02:04
Yeah...you can have up to four. I had three compacted ones removed when I was about 21 years old. Best advice is to go see a dentist. Some people (like my husband) have them come in and the dentist says you have plenty of room in your mouth and they don't need to be taken out. Others...like myself... just didn't have room for them.

Also, there is over-the-counter medicine you can probably buy to numb a bit of the discomfort. Good luck!
starmekitten Posted - 03/14/2005 : 16:01:34
It's just one giving me hassle, the other (others?) came up pain and hassle free, just this one damned tooth.
ow.

Both of mine were removed a few years ago, when they were compacted. I experienced no pain prior to the operation, but afterwards had considerable amounts. Are both troubling you, or just the one?

how old are you?
one of mine has broken through completely now and i've experienced no pain.
