I've got a collections of ticket stubs from concerts that I was checking out the other day and it got me thinking about some of my favorite concerts.
My first concert was one of my favorites(1st without my parents going with me,my mom took me to see the Carpenters, you know Richard & Karen, "Close to You", "Rainy Days and Mondays",it was good but not one of my favorites).
It was 1973-74 (8th grade year), Joe Walsh (sans James Gang but still played Funk-49), Rick Derringer (Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo), and then The Edgar Winter Group (FRANKENSTEIN).
5 of us went (my best friend Doug, Alison, Ronnie(girl), and Jennifer) Our parents dropped us off at the Municipal Auditorium at about 5:00 pm for a 7:00 pm concert. It was "festival seating" and when the doors opened we crammed up to about 3 rows from the stage. Of course, we were just a few feet away from the towers of speakers, Had a ringing in my ear for two days after.
Joe Walsh was good, but nobody could compare to that Long-haired Albino with the Synthesizer around his neck jamming out on Frankenstein. Very freaky, a little scary,...but I liked it!
P.S. I don't have the ticket stub to this one, my stubs date back to the 1980's. |

By southern belle you mean she lived off the Bell Parkway?
Or south part of Brooklyn, like Coney Island?

Hey, Forget about it, Brooklyn Heights? What are you kidding me, that's one pricey neighborhood, and the view from the Promanade, the frigin' best view of the city anywhere!
I should have known you were from Brooklyn, you got that Brooklyn attitude shinning through some of your posts. I always liked Brooklyn girls, very sassy, confident, you girls have a real hard looking beauty about you(as opposed to soft, like say, Westchester or upstate). Dorian was from Bay Ridge.
Having said all of that, I got me a real southern belle this time. She is my true love, the one I hope to spend the rest of my life with. |

Yeah Kathryn, what are you kidding me, who wouldn't miss New York! (too bad you can't hear my thick Brooklyn accent as I respond) My favorite part of the city is the Village, and one of my favorite things to do was to spend Sunday afternoons at Washington Square Park. Yeah, I miss the good things about the city, but hey, I've been back a few times, My wife (Julia, not my first wife from Brooklyn, Dorian) and I took her parents there for a long weekend, stayed in an apartment near Lincoln Center, and saw Guys and Dolls at one of those great, old Broadway Theaters, also got to take a tour (20 people) of Yankee Stadium, including Monument Park and the Yankee Clubhouse.
How 'bout you, do you get back to visit very often? |

Other then ' you know who' and the 'what's their names', the last concert/gig that I still get really excited about remembering was Bobby Cohn and the Glass Gypsies last year. I think it was because I thought I'd never get to see him and I had a strange dream that I had went to see him and that sort of stuck in my head that I 'had' actually seen him, until I actually did of course?? Anyway he really rocked and was very funny and I got his autograph. The Liars, Bonnie Prince Billy and The Acid Temple Mothers were also very good.

I was finishing college then and used to live in the city
and caught some fun shows, Music on the Pier,
the Central Park concerts (I forget the "official" name) ...
Joe Jackson, Talking Heads, Elvis. You know the score.
I like to think that at that time I practically lived at the Ritz and Palladium
and Area. It was a moment in time and, I guess, one we share, somewhat.
Do you miss the city now that you don't live there? I do but then again,
I like to sleep nowadays.

Yes, Kathryn, I did. I quit college after my freshman year, when I was 19, moved to New York and stayed until I was 28. I had some great times and some not so great times, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
