Hola!

Yesterday I got the CD of The Walkmen Bows and Arrows, Jose Jones, You're right..The Rat is a really cool song that shine at the first impression more than the others, but if you start listening the other songs...they are excellent.

Saludos

hi there!

i absolutely love the walkmen. they're easily one of my favorite bands, and bows+arrows is my favorite album of 2004.

about the rat being better than their other songs: the problem here is that the Rat is pretty different than what they usually do. some would say it is better. i wouldn't. every song on that album is achingly beautiful. their first album is great, too. it's a little less straightforward and more experimental than B+A, but it really grows on you.

i too thought the rat made the rest of the album pale in comparison, but once you really listen to what's going on in each song and realize what the walkmen are all about and are able to achieve in seemingly simplistic arrangments, you'll be blown away.

keep on keepin' on!

Why only one of those two?
ccuadros Posted - 03/09/2005 : 11:59:18
The thing is that I want to buy new music...and I want to choose between The Walkmen or the last LP of Modest Mouse, at cduniverse you only can hear 30 sec. of each songs so I have the big doubt....someboy could recommend one?

Yeah I think that's the one Mike 2.
speedy_m Posted - 03/09/2005 : 08:42:48
I love Bows + Arrows. I'll agree that the Rat blows away most of the rest of the album (except maybe Little House of Savages, is that the one you were thinking of, Mike?), but the rest is great too. I love "New Year's Eve". Their first album had some great songs too.
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 03/09/2005 : 08:41:43
Dean mentioned Mike 2.
ccuadros Posted - 03/09/2005 : 08:35:45
ummm what's number are you talking???
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 03/09/2005 : 08:16:02
No I haven't but I will try and check it out. Thanks. How do these Mike numbers work by the way?
Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 03/09/2005 : 07:49:36
They're pretty good, especially the drums, but they do have their sound and stick a little too closely to it on that particular album, I do agree.

That said, have you heard their Christmas song? Mike 2 pointed me to it, it's quite loverly.

ccuadros Posted - 03/09/2005 : 07:21:13
Modest Mouse is better?
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 03/09/2005 : 07:12:44
The Rat is an amazing song, but the rest of the album does sound the same throughout. It's not a bad album, it's just not as good as I had hoped. They just can't right another Rat, although there is one other stand out track on there, I just can't remember which.
