Do any of you actually use it? I'm Canadian so whenever I spell "favorite" I spell it as "favourite" or color I spell "colour" I can't remember any more Canadian spelling...

Do you Canadians here use the proper spelling? I guess the Brits have different spellings too...

I'm not the best speller in the first place - but I try.

Also, I found this page;

but when you are referring to the buoy in the water you say boo-ee, not boy. but it is always boy-an-see

It's halfway between vegemite and marmite.

Even though I'm American, I've spelled "travelling" and "travelled" with the double L since I was a kid. There are other words where I WON'T use the double L, though ("shoveling," for instance), so I'm not exactly consistent.

NimrodsSon

color -> colon
colour -> parlour

There's a certain logic to it, or at least consistency. I'm sure there's a better example than parlour, but probably most really similar examples have been likewise Americanized.

Thanks NimroudsSouns.
NimrodsSon Posted - 03/01/2005 : 19:22:34
I'm American, but I"ll often use British spelling in my writing, such as colour, labour, etc. simply because it, for some reason, is more pleasing to look at.
But I do believe it makes perfect since to leave the u out, because it is not pronounced and for all praticle purposes need not be there.

I hate american spelling, i have a real hatred of it. What i hate more are spellcheckers that try and change everything to a bloody yank spelling.

Im not having none of it, i tell you now.

i suspect you're right COF, i can't see where they can the yancy sound from bouy.
kathryn Posted - 03/01/2005 : 12:41:50
COF, rest assured most Americans can't spell that word
correctly, as you, being a Canadian, just did.

I didn't know people actually paid attention to this. I just decided to bring it up because I never hear anyone talking about it. It's like, when I point out a fellow Canadian's spelling and say "That's spelled American" they don't know what I'm talking about.
kathryn Posted - 02/28/2005 : 18:37:28
In hell (not in heaven) everything is about Brit/Canadian
vs. U.S. spelling.
