I hate to give it to a band that only has one album out and is so new but I have to go with.....

Franz Ferdinand

Other artists in my collection: Flaming Lips, Front 242, Furnace Face. not much else.

Foo Fighters. Self-titled album is f*cking awesome!!. The colour and the shape is good too. Albums after that...uumm..well just a couple of good songs from each record.

I think what I really love about'em as a band are their sudden shifts from blitzkrieg riffage to the dark ambient lulls and there's not a lot of that on SA.

Second half of Suspended has it in places.

Oh it clicks - it clicks really well. I think what did it for me is seeing some of it live. OOH the love for the craziness was big at that one. I found it really jarring to start with but now it's a first thing in the morning special in that you go through so many ranges with it - the tracks are so quick, tight and complex. Directors Cut was my first Fantomas album and I also had that almost 3 months till I got it. Wasn't till I listened to it at night driving along a deserted road with a good friend that I understood it.

04/30/05 Wednesday is my current obsession.

Surfer, what did you think of Suspended Animation? The first three releases are musical gospel to me but I'm still having trouble getting into this one. It is just so fucking aggro, I had the first one for a while before it started to click. I wondering if this one ever will!

Just joking about that frankie post by the way.

I'm going to have to go with Fugazi off of the top of my head. I went looking to see what I had for F bands and it was slim pickens'. Was that intentional Shiney?

The Ian Astbury solo project is on indefinate hold B.T.W. Here's a decent article about him singing for the Doors

I don't know about the fall...Granted, i've only heard two songs off Kurious Oranj, but neither of those songs were awesome. I'm gonna have to be a boring man and cast my vote for Fugazi and Flaming Lips and Fiery Furnaces.

And Franz Ferdinand is pretty good.

EDIT: Actually, one of those songs from Kurious Oranj WAS awesome. The Fall probably is a great F band. I just haven't heard them. They have been around forever.

You're right. I'm just complicating things.
Man, reading this post makes me realise how many excellent bands there are out there. Most of these names I've never even heard before. Who says rock is dead! I get all excited just thinking about all the great music I have yet to discover.

Well I always considered "Frank Black" to be more a stage name, not a personal name. Like Frank and Black are not somebody's first and last name, it's just "Frank Black", like the name of the band, only in this case the band is only one man. So maybe Frank Black and The Catholics is in a way an "F" band?

well, it's easier to simplify by putting him in the B's cause then where does Bowie go, D's? Dylan in the B's? Paul McCartney and Wings would remain in M because it's his real name? anyways, the only difficulty i think i'm going to have is when we get to I and iggy and the stooges are there and iggy alone is in the P's. let's classify now Iggy will be an I so as not to unfairly compete with the pixies. OK? there is an exception to every rule.

i'm looking into the Fall, i didn't forget faith no more, or fugazi. i just don't like neither as much as Franz. Futureheads are PFG.

Yep, they are fairly famous now. They must've been really young when they started out in PE. I saw them live a few months ago. They play the three boy punk stuff Greenday churns out.

If 50 Foot Wave had to go under "numbers", my choice of F band would be Firewater.

But hey have enough firepower to win both categories IMO.

The Futureheads or Fugazi.

I'd say 50 Foot Wave come under the number. Their name is never spelt out. I guess they win the 50 category hands down.
