OK, I have an idea, let's see if it works. I guess it's the bastard cousin of the Compilation CD Swap, only this won't cost you money.

The idea is that you have to find a new band/musical artist for a fellow forum member. The band doesn't have to be new as such, just new to the forum member. You can discover them anyway you like but it would be a good idea to make sure they have songs readily available on the internet, unless you want to provide them with a CD.

I will do a random draw, with all the names of the forum members who want to participate. Whoever you are paired up with, you will find a band/artist for them, and they for you.

Now this will require a degree of honesty, if they contact you with a suggestion then you have to be honest with them. If you hate it, tell them, they will have to try again.

I propose a closing date for entries of 31st March. That gives everyone a good chance to see this. The draw will then be made and I will post the results here. Everyone will then have 1 month to find their partner a musical match. The results of this will also be posted here.

I suggest contact between the pairs should be kept to email where possible, except for anything you feel you need to share with the rest of the forum. You may want to ask your match for certain criterea that you may want to meet, such as what type of music they generally like or are looking for new music in.

I would suggest that a match is officially made when your partner agrees to it being their match (ie, they really like it. I don't think thinking it's OK is good enough).

Any questions, please post them below.

OK, who's in?

In so far we have:

Myself
Broken Face

The Holiday Son
Sarah Spinart
The Marsist
Rita

This is going slowly due to people not contacting their partners. Sarah has sent one email and hasn't replied to my latest for a couple of weeks. I don't mind though, so long as we get there in the end.

Kim, will you do me the honour of being my wife?
VoVat Posted - 05/09/2005 : 18:22:59
That's okay. Neither am I, really.

I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied.

I've been utterly crap - don't really now where or how to start - sorry Vovat.

Shine you taught me all about Le Savy Fav, so as far as I'm concerned you did an excellent job without even playing the game.

Nah, I just haven't had much of a chance to do Internet-type stuff in the last few days.

The wonderful Guided By Voices! And Robert Pollard.

But he also introduced me to some others that I didn't knew and I'm enjoying a lot, I couldn't have a better partner on this.

Thanks Speedy!!!

This is tougher than I though it would be.
But the process is very enjoyable.
Superabounder Posted - 04/24/2005 : 21:04:34
OK, so how is this going for everyone? Marsist and I are making our old-fashioned cd's and posting soon (was supposed to Saturday, but I'm slightly slacking). Any favorites so far for anyone?

Homer....this was such an excellent idea of yours! Because of this swap I am learning to use Soulseek and I am in the process of downloading some music I have never heard of thanks to Holiday Son.

I predict this won't be easy, I must surprise speedy, and I already have a couple of bands.

look em up online or download some stuff from KazaA. Not for the faint of heart. Hardcore drum beats, with punk vocals, and utter noise guitar. Rhythmic noise that makes sense and actually ROCKS if you can wrap your head around it. You've been warned.

That's not quite how it works PT but thanks for the heads-up anyway. Always happy to check out new music.
