Anybody like these fellers? Probably the only group I like as much as FB, maybe Thelonious too. I saw them perform in Dublin in 2001, it was a really interesting setup they have live: guitarist and bassist at the front with singer and drummer in the back corners on little platforms, so the effect was you didnīt have the audience crushing up in a flying wedge towards the stage like when the singer is at the centrefront, they turned the the whole auditorium into a circle of sorts you could move around a lot more freely in, seemed to me like a much kinder type of dynamic.

Isis was another name for Semiramis, a Babylonian war goddess, traditionally represented as having a spiky halo on her head. She pops up now and then on the Statue of Liberty and its double in France and the depiction of Britannia.

No, but she can probably help you preserve your organs after death, and mummify your body.

They're made up of the members of Isis, Converge and Cave In and they've been described as Kyuss meets Neurosis meets Mogwai. I've only heard their instrumental stuff (I think there's some vocals somewhere but not on anything I've heard.)

i've heard of them, but not heard them.
i suppose i should then?

i'm the opposite newo, i don't listen to lyrics at all for any band....thats why i like so many instrumental bands...
also handy cause isis' lyrics are 99% of the time indicipherable on the record.

Never heard of Thelonious Monster Darwin, it be Monk Iīm talking about.
Thanks for the Isis link Benji, I looked through some of their lyrics and Iīll check em out. I mainly like Tool for lyrics about the false reality, and their last record being more peaceful, first couple are pretty much stylised rage. Plus I can respect any band makes a record takes me almost half a decade to grow on me.

i like my bloody valentine, actually i like a lot of bands albums that alan moulder produced - j and m chain, my bloody valentine, swervies, smashing pumpkins. never heard mogwai, except for your comp. song, but i didn't think it was that heavy. i can't download - long story.

yes, ISIS are of a similar-ish vein to tool, but i think they are far superior.
well far superior as in i actually don't like tool - as with shine i find their songs very samey and boring.

isis' new album sounds more like a rather heavy combination of mogwai and my bloody valentine.
it is brilliant.

download 'the beginning and the end' and 'backlit' for a taster.

i saw tool 3 times over the years, once at reading ('93), once at a lollapalooza ('95 i think), and once opening for maybe pearl jam (i can't really remember who they opened for, somebody big). they are good but all their songs sound the same to me, not really a bad thing but the song isn't that great soooooo....

is ISIS like tool?

Thelonious Monk? Or, Thelonious Monster? I like both of them, but I know nothing about Tool.
