What is something that's cool about your work? Or maybe several somethings?

Mine--I think it's neat how employees in my company travel more miles than any other global group.

My job is looking after my kids. I get to play with PlayDoh, play hide and seek and go to Playgroup. Not to mention getting my daughter to dance around to "Horrible Day" and "Goodbye Lorraine" amongst others (my son's too young). I think I have the coolest job in the world, but the pay is lousy.

I teach a few hours a week to an economist who´s a big poobah in the world of European Integration, he thinks his job is cooler than I do.

Hehehe, Domestiques. I hear you. I think we might work for the same company.

Don't worry, we're on the rebound.

It's better than the previous one I had. Same industry, different bank.

No. I'm from Southern Cali. I've been to Seattle a few times, but never out of the airport! So I'm going to spend a weekend there and check it out. Jones soda! Did you know there was a seasonal six pack of Jones soda last Thanksgiving of turkey and mashed potato and stuffing-flavored soda? It was all the rage on E-Bay...people were spending hundreds of dollars on this crap!!

I don't make a lot of money, but my job is cool. I get to travel all the time so that is a definate perk. I spent 2.5 weeks in the Bahamas in January...two days I'll be in Seattle AND Atlanta in the same day...then next week I'm off to Philadelphia, and back to Seattle. February I'll be in Toronto. It's kinda fun! Oh, I work for Jacuzzi and Sundance Spas. I do all of the custom order print jobs for our dealers (posters, banners, etc.) and I build booths for trade shows.

I translate Spanish to English, Tobafett. Japanese sounds like it´d be more interesting as not quite so similar. I´m learning Arabic at the moment so maybe some possibility there...

I worked as an editor for a theatre company in Berlin Floop, it was trmendous fun and I´d do it again in a pinch. Have you worked on anything I might have seen?

benji Posted - 02/13/2005 : 20:59:50
i absolutely love my current job - it's called being on holiday!
it means i get to sleep in to whenever i want, do what ever i want, drink whenever i want and however much i want, and usually involves going for a swim at around 4pm...thats as much as a schedule as i get at the moment.
but it is a bit hard on the bank balance.

but am looking forward to my next job which will invlove working 12 hour days in 40 degree (centigrade) heat in the middle of the desert.
it's gunna be awesome!

I need a job.

Anyone?

Love, love, my season
floop Posted - 02/13/2005 : 10:08:35
i feel lucky to say that i like my job. instead of having a real job i get to work on movies, which is what i love. i get to work with a lot of interesting, creative people, and get to move on to new projects, so it always stays interesting.

it can be very stressful though. and the lack of real job security is a downside. but, it still beats having a real job.

I have four jobs, writing, musicmaking, teaching and translating. None of them feel like work and I have no boss. Life is grand.

My job is perceived by many to be cool. What makes it cool for me is the people I work with. I'm always under deadline pressure (though you'd never guess it by the amount of time I waste here), it's long hours and not paid as well as what people seem to think. The people I work with make it all worthwhile. We are like family to each other - 3 years of working closely together means that I see the managing director as a father figure (he does refer to us as the bastard children he never had) - if I was ever in any kind of trouble, he'd be the first person I'd call.

Oh and we were allowed to adopt 2 stray cats, Friday night drinking is usually on the company credit card, they're paying for me to learn to drive (even though my job doesn't require it) and I get 2 free flights to Europe every year.

I am a very very lucky person.

I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A

the cool thing about my job is the flexibility of my schedule. i can work days, evenings, nights, weekdays only, weekends only, 8/10/12/14 hour shifts, and as much overtime as i can stand. everything else drives me insane, but i can't complain about the scheduling.

Cool things: Original and creative job. Excellent pay. I work at home, when I want to. No boss on my back -- I have one but I never see him. My main collaborator is a lovely lady (an ex-air hostess). Last but not least, I'm generally exempted from meetings cuz I live too far from Paris.

Not so cool things: I sometimes have to work at night, til 1:00 or 2:00 am. Spend hours on the telephone. Would like to meet a little more often the aforementioned main collaborator, who lives in Paris :)

my so-called job is actually very cold, i quit my managing/dispatching job and am refereeing for all my money, i'm doing about 70 games (ice hockey) a month and it gets real cold some nights. i can't wait to get a day job again but am not rushing into something i don't want to do. i just wrote 4 hours of tests this afternoon trying to get into the air-traffic controller program, will find out in a couple weeks if i am selected for the next step in the process.
