Posted - 02/01/2005 : 19:17:41 Hey all
My label's website needs serious work, and i am just not good enough at html to give it the look it needs. Does anyone here do some freelance web design that i could take a look at and perhaps hire you to redo my label's site?
Thanks!
-Brian

Posted - 02/07/2005 : 10:49:35 i have no objection to working with foreign bands - it might be difficult, but if the band is good enough, i don't care!

Do you only deal with local acts or acts from your own country?
I think I may email a few record companies and ask them if they want any scouts. Even if it's unpaid then it's a foot in the door.

Posted - 02/07/2005 : 09:55:37 Brian, do you have music scouts for your label, or is all the A&R side of it done by yourself (I am assuming you do it yourself at the moment)?
I was just looking into A&R, more specifically music scouting (like unpaid work for record companies), and was wondering if you knew much about it?

Posted - 02/02/2005 : 11:46:05 yesi have considered doing it myself via dreamweaver, but i'm really obsessed with getting a great looking website and i'd trust someone other than myself to do it. my attempts are so lame.

Posted - 02/02/2005 : 11:17:31 This is so cool. Have you considered using Dreamweaver and doing it yourself? You don't need to know HTML.Also, like Daisy, I'd be honored to help you with copy, etc.

Posted - 02/02/2005 : 05:33:21 it is much easier than you'd think - i set up a crude website, contacted some companies that press discs, found someone who did mastering, etc. phone calls/emails/elbow grease is all it takes.

Posted - 02/02/2005 : 05:13:15 my only "experience" was seeing bands that were really good never release albums and working in college radio. i wanted to help some really talented people get records out and do things in a totally DIY way. basically, my friend joe is a singer/songwriter and was talking about how he wanted to put out his 2nd album and i was talking about how i wanted to start a label, and we decided to join our ventures. the problem is that his stuff is a bit too, umm..., let's just say that its not the style that i would want the label to go in. on top of that, the label isn't exactly what he was looking for. so, the first release was a bit of a wash. the second release, which i will be getting my copies of TOMORROW (i'm quite excited) is much more interesting - its a 4 piece band of friends that features one guy who is in a major-label band (Ours) and is just basically 4 friends who wanted to make a record - it is really heavy at times, super mellow at others, there is broken-glass percussion, underwater recording, lots of time changes - basically, its a really interesting record, which is more of what i'm going for. the third release is by my friend dan's acoustic duo, who are cool, but might fall into the "not exactly the style" category, although i think their stuff is more my thing than joe's. and the fourth release i am REALLY excited about is an indie hip hop thing by my friend steve, who has already done a lot of touring and has self-released 2 records. he is probably the most talented guy i know and does really intelligent hip hop - none of the cash, money, hos stuff.
so thats the story. and eventually (sometime late this year or early next) i'd like to put out a record on it too. and i'm working on a supersecret compilation for a homless shelter that might have some really awesome guest stars...

Posted - 02/01/2005 : 19:51:10 I've been thinking about it and would be willing to give it a try depending on how ambitious you are, what you want to do, and what you're running your server on. As in, I don't know much about ASP, but I've been doing a lot of PHP/MySQL stuff lately which I've found to be fantastic for making sites easily maintainable and maintainable by multiple people. If you just want strict HTML, that's even quicker and easier.
Maybe the best way is for you to send me an email telling me what you want your site to be able to do and any ideas you have as far as appearance or message me and we can look at it (obviously no pressure, I'm fine if you'd rather go with someone you don't know as well or someone who's done this professionally before). On that last note, Dave Noisy also designs some sites, though he's the opposite of me and uses ASP and doesn't know PHP.
*ASP = Active Server Pages -> generally Microsoft servers *PHP = Hypertext PreProcessor -> UNIX/Apache servers

Posted - 02/01/2005 : 19:41:24 )Brian,
I don't know HTML but let me know if you need any help with copy writing or editing. (I know I know I suck at it here but I am actually good when I am not watching TV at the same time )
Feel free to bounce any ideas off or if you just want a fresh pair of eyes to check things out.
PS when you finish it can we take a look??
