I can do "Southern American" (Redneck), I remember in Drama class a while ago there was a girl who could do this really awesome Irish accent... I really can't do many other accents, I remember as a kid I could do a bunch, I guess over the years - I've lost the skill.

What about a Catalan speaking Castillian? After that, you can't hear
Spanish spoken by any other national without cringing.

I would like to hear these Australian and South African impressions 'cos I think they are the hardest to do well.

Apparently my South African impression is like a slightly posh Cape Town one. How's that for specific?
I can do a bit of Welsh as well, I guess, i live with two of em, for my sins.

Sorry for the double post but I thought of a couple more brits that can do great American accents. Damian Lewis, from Band of Brothers. In fact, I had no idea he was English until I listened to the "behind the scenes" interviews on the DVD set.

Another is the great Gary Oldman, although he really had to work on it. If you watch Criminal Law, his American is pretty bad. But in The Contender, it's amazing.

I couldn't tell an Aussie from a Kiwi from a South African accent
if my life depended on it. I can barely tell the Irish from the Brits.

Gypsy, you mean you didn't care for Renée Zellweger's Bridget Jones?

Actually, to be honest, my accents tend to be merely impressions of characters I've seen in film. I can do a mean Tony Montana ("first joo get the money, then joo get the power") or Mad Max ("two days ago, I saw a rig that could 'aul that tanka"). So I'm a fraud.

yanks doing brit accents cracks me up.

I cant do american ones very well, more so recently, i tried to do one the other way and it became irish - so i guess i can do an irish accent.

I used to have a really strong cockney accent, but lost it over the years.

my b/f can do a really great aussie one too, but he lived there for a year, so i guess he has an advantage.

But can you do regular American? That seems to be much tougher for UK types to pull off. For instance, John Cleese or Michael Caine doing an American accent makes me want to poke my eardrums out. But then you have someone like Claire Forlani or Guy Pearce who can do it better than most of us yanks. The only accent I can do really well is Australian.
