Well,

Today is not a good day and I imagine the weeks to follow will be no better, maybe even worse. It has been almost a month since I found out that my landlords are taking their house back so that their spoilt lawyer daughter can move in. My mother and I are pretty much...pardon the all too appropriate pun...left out in the cold. Ma had recently lost her job(by recently I mean 3 months) and we've never been well off enough to have anything saved since my father left...14 years ago. We live check to check. It's been a long, unsatisfying struggle which seems to have no end. It's pretty tough finding anything right now because everyone is looking for first and last upfront. We are having trouble even paying our last month in the house we are in now, So you can imagine my mood.
Not only do I have this wonderful news hanging over my head, but today I came to the conclusion that I have to give my cat away to the one person I can say that I loathe without a second thought. I can't afford, at this point, to keep her. I've grown very attached to Leela and it kills me inside knowing that she's going to have to live with him.
Another source of my frustration is my job for a company that should have been out of business about 5 years ago. It's not only the ignorance that I have to deal with everyday, it's the fact that I have to work along side the one I loathe...who happens to be my boss, and lives in the basement of my house. It's really funny how friendship can turn around when someone realises that you're not going to sleep with them.

The loneliness doesn't help either.
I'm just not having a very good day, I thought this is one place I could let it all out.

venting is good...now where is my shotgun?

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta

Not to mention the poor pen lids around here...

Well good vibes to you, I hope you find a bigger and better house and job. And you sound like a helluva daughter too

CHOS... so sorry about everything. What kept me going besides the Pixies and what not when I was going through a similar rough time was just knowing... at some point it would get better. Hopefully that will help you a little
KimStanleyRobinson Posted - 01/28/2005 : 12:36:43
Alicia, if I was close by, I'd break my state-sanctioned vow of sobriety and help you paint that town brown.

Starmekitten matched us up, did you see that?

Two words:
Fate motorcycle.
You can take those two words and make probably at least a few other words you could actually use from the letters.

Coldie! Hang in there. It will get better. Folks here have given you some
sound advice re: renters' rights. You do get to collect unemployment, right?
Keep us posted and remember, it will get better!

Wow this is so great that I have something more to add to this thread of agony. I got "laid off" yesterday. Life is good.

CHOS, I am so sorry for everything going on. It makes you wonder why things like this happen to nice people. As far as the job situation goes, I can empathize being so out of work for so long. I finally got my job from Monster.

I know at a time like this, there seems like there is no hope. But it it's just at that point, where it seems like it can only get worse, that it will start to get better. What I told my self was "hang in there, it's going to get better. It can't get any worse so it is going to get better."

All the positive thoughts to you and your situation. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help!

Dayanara and KIM I am so so sorry for both of you!!! The same above applies. All of you im me when ever!!! Hang in there!!!

In France we have a law according to which your landlords cannot evict you during the winter - I don't know if this exists anywhere else, that would be cool...

Anyway, Coldie, I wish you good luck and courage.

I will show you fear in a handful of dust
Coldheartofstone Posted - 01/25/2005 : 10:54:39
Aww...thanks... I'm actually suprised that I'm not ripping my hair out...well I have been biting the skin around my nails a bit more than usual but hey. I now know that I NEED to find another job... incase they feel like popping up one day and saying "Oh hey, we can't afford to pay you anymore so... bye." then I'll be really fucked. Oh well ..the only reason I'm still here is because the old guy that own the business is really sweet and a good honest guy.

Here in Virginia there are many, many organizations willing help folks with their first/last deposit.

Have you had a look at your city's website?

They may have links to groups that can provide some sort of aid.

Damn, ColdHeartofStone, what a bummer!!!

I don't know about landlord/tenant law in Canada, but here in Tennessee a landlord has to go through the courts to evict a tenant and it's not a quick process, sometimes two or three months. And, if you have a lease you can't be evicted until the lease expires or you default on the lease in some way.

I suggest you call the local bar association and see if you qualify for some free legal representation. I would take your case simply because I enjoy fighting for those that are being taken advantage of, however, my license to sue doesn't extend beyond Tennessee.

I'll pray for you and your mother. Maybe great jobs for the both of you are on the way!

And, if there is anything else that I can do, email me and I will help anyway I can.
KimStanleyRobinson Posted - 01/21/2005 : 14:07:05
Sorry Alicia, thats poo.

FWIW, I will probably be living out of my VW camper for most of March and April.
I managed to get myself arrested for DUI a couple weeks ago (blew a .105 -yay for small town america!) and can't get out of a loss of license...live an hour from work...no one who can drive me.
Jesus.

I'm sorry you have to deal with an ogre living in your basement and that he gets to get that close to your cat.

Hang in there.

Hey Coldie, I'm getting kicked out of my house this month, too. Some bullshit about "toxic mold" or whatever. This year has been exceptionally bad for me so far, and we're only 21 days into it. Not a good sign. And like you, I'm also considering acts of domestic terrorism.

This is where I would say something inspirational to help you get through it, except I can't come up with anything. But I agree with Kathryn, rest your head on Frank and feel free to vent here whenever you need to. This too shall pass.

Eking sucks.
I did it for years.
I try not to take for granted that I don't have to quite as much now.

Oh the shotgun wasn't for killing myself...

Maybe I should have said sniper rifle... yeah that's the ticket.

Thanks katryn. And thatnks for that wonderful package in the mail... forever grateful.

kathryn Posted - 01/21/2005 : 11:35:16
No shotgun jokes, Coldie. Maybe a shotgun wedding, but no suicidal stuff, OK?

This, too, shall pass. I know that that is a cliche and I know that right now
you can't see how this will get better. But it will.
