Camper Van Beethoven, whose equipment was (apparently) stolen earlier in this tour, have lost all their equipment again here in Dallas. I was hoping this was just a joke, but it is posted on the band's web-site.

I can't believe that could happen again. One would think they would have a lojack system installed in their transport vehicle after the first time.

Sounds as if their show will still go on, which I am looking forward to in a few hours.

VoVat I agree with you. This show had several points where Camper went from one song to the next repeatedly with split second breaks, especially at the beginning of the show. I found that the points where the band stopped and he actually spoke, although they were drawn out, were pretty funny and interesting. He was self deprecating at times, especially when talking about sitting at the same table with David Byrne at a wedding reception. They were good stories, and completely in keeping with the thc-tinged, stream of consciousness, not-completely serious, though not completely joking attitude that David seemed to give the band and its music.

I like David's stage banter. I did have trouble hearing him last time I went to a CVB show, but I think that was the venue's fault. I've been to several shows there that had bad sound.

That would be 'Bloodshot' Perk. My oldest brother had it, so, it was unattainable to me and instantly cool. Also the LP was see-through red and I had never seen anything like that before. The other thing that sucked me in was the 'made loud to be played loud' footnote on the record. To a pre-teen, thats a pretty cool slogan.

Here is a link to amazon page for some nostalgia...

The J Geils record with house party on it still
makes me want to spare change people for the next
keg.

Prince has lived far too long in Prince world.

BUT, I just wish that Lowery would shut up a bit between songs. That was the most stage banter I have ever suffered through since Peter Wolf beat me into submission with some DJ rap (pre-real rap) at a JGeils show in the 80's (that oddly enough was also a good show). The body language of the rest of the band was terrible while his story droned on and on.

Great band though. The music was awesome. I would put the crowd at 150-200 tops.

And for those 'insurance scam' buffs, according to the band the amps that were NOT stolen just happened to be the ones that were broken and in need of repair. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Glad the show was great. I am trying to remember the banter- I remember a little like someone brought on a violin during the act....and they mentioned the Montreal robbery.

The longest-- in the last year most ego focused stage banter was Prince. It was pretty self serving and as someone who likes his music I would have rather seen another song or two and less show biz.

This says a lot about the quality of so-called security goons these days, the guy was probably in on the heist.

I agree kathryn, I prefer the pre-centerfold stuff most. They were a great band live.

BF - I dont think I have ever complained about too much banter at a show before. And I think Lowry is a pretty engaging fellow, but, the mics aint built for conversation, so, you can only make out about every 3rd word he says anyway. It was a small but attentive crowd and the band seemed appreciative of the folks who came out. They also had a nice little story in the Dallas Morning News yesterday if you are interested.

Again, the music was great and I would recommend anyone who has a chance to see CVB to do so.

when i saw the warm up show for the tour this year lowry didn't speak at all - perhaps thats because only 40 people came to the mean streets of teaneck, new jersey to see CVB warm up. i was happier than a pig in shit - 2 sets, w/ the second set mainly all requests (they played "where the hell is bill" for me) and i got a kick ass bootleg of it.

J Geils band remain underrated, despite my best efforts, Dallas.

Well, they sounded great even on borrowed equipment. Made no excuses, just played it hard and thanked the people who lent them instruments. That'll teach you to take your favorite guitar with you on tour!

You were right D.G., it was a blast!
kathryn Posted - 01/18/2005 : 17:55:19
I wouldn't put it past it happening twice, for real.

This bums me out. Reminds of when FB+theCs' stuff got
stolen.

Talk about bad karma.

The insurance job thing was the first idea that popped into my head because the radio station in Dallas that reported it (imagaine that-CVB on the radio, kind-of) estimated the value of the gear at hundreds of thousands of dollars!! ha! Then I thought maybe they made up stories that their gear was stolen EVERYWHERE they went to boost attention. Last idea was that they were too stoned to realize anything was missing since Montreal.

This is not an urban hoax?

I can't believe their gear got stolen AGAIN!!! That's crazy!

Superabounder, I am sure you are going to have a blast. It was a great show in Minny back in October I think it was, and after the time their first . I was impressed by the whole show.

To me the highlight was when they borrowed this really good violin that to me sounded as good as the original.

Let me know how the show was :)

Good lord, I think I'd give up right there and then. Or start locking my van.
