I saw the Ladykillers and they were the last filmmakers I wouldīve expected to go crap. What happened?

Ladykillers as far as garbage for renting on a Tuesday night is concerned is way above the cut, and it was nice to see Tom Hanks stopping being Jimmy Stweart for a couple hours in a decade, itīs just Iīve become somewhat spoiled by the Coens in that I donīt expect anything less than outstanding. Even their bigbudget flop was great. And the thing with the cat and the finger at the end was just clumsy. Seeing as The Man Who Wasnīt There was lifted directly from Kind Hearts and Coronets but still had their own stamp on it, perhaps theyīve gone to the Ealing comedy well once too often.

The only Coen work I'm familiar with is Raising Arizona, Blood Simple, Fargo, and Miller's Crossing. I have The Hudsucker Proxy on Tivo right now, just waiting to be watched. I meant to catch the Ladykillers while it was still in theaters, but missed it. I won't condemn it until I see it.

I think o brother is outstanding. Barton fink is probably my favourite though. Anyone got the coens collection? Not sure its worth shelling out 40 pounds for. I've yet to see raising arizona, blood simple or the hudsucker proxy. I watched intolerable cruelty the other night and had I not known it was a Coens film I would never have guessed. However due in part possibly to the fact I was wasted it entertained me. I have ladykilers but I've not got round to it yet, I wonder why

i mean, both intolerable and ladykillers aren't terrible films - they are just subpar on the coens' level

Good point, but he still annoyed the hell out of me. To be fair it was more his character.

You have to remember he was acting as a man who is both eccentric and himself acting (to fool his host). So I thought it was done quite well. And actually, I didn't hate the movie in retrospect. It was okay. Just not on par with some of their other stuff.

You think so? He annoyed the hell out of me. Not helped by some some terrible dialogue, but he overacted at times I thought.

I quite enjoyed Intolerable Cruelty. George Clooney is brilliant in it.
Ladykillers is ok.
I yet have to see a bad Coen Bros movie.
Though a few are really really good.

I liked the rapid fire dialogue in Intolerable Cruelty a whole bunch. I did not like ladykillers, though. Too much cussing.

I actually was one of the few that quite enjoyed Intolerable Cruelty, if not on the same dimensions as earlier works of their. Ladykillers was bearable only by Tom Hanks' brilliant acting.

i think that intollerable cruelty and the ladykillers have started the inevitable downfall of the coen brothers. it had to happen sooner or later. will they rebound? of course - but their track record is seriously tainted right now, which is quite unfortunate.

I liked 'The Ladykillers'. A lot. Great music and photography.

And I don't like the Coens.

The violet, the lily and the pink but those I refused all three

I haven't seen it, but 2 days ago I saw O' Brother and thought it wasn't that great. It was in part due to the bad French dubbing, but still.

Yeah even the trailers couldn't make that film look watchable.
