Tornados - I don't like em'. Last summer we got allot of bad weather, however a Tornado never actually struck our city; a tornado did however touch down near our city, on more then one occasion. (I'm from Alberta)

Oh yeah and probably faliure, plain out faliure. Having to grow a beard and live on the streets and bag for change just because I can't get a job or graduate or something like that. Or even worse - live in my parent's basment.

Actually I think I would rather live on the streets then in my parent's basment. I won't give those greedy jock bastards the satisfaction of fitting into the classic sci-fi fan sterotype!

That would be me.

I almost fell asleep during "Open Water." If anything, that movie decreased my fear of sharks. Now a film about giant angry stingrays, that would keep me away from the beach.

Hey speaking of Sharks has anyone seen the movie "Open Waters"... atleast that's what I think it was called.

If you've seen it, you'll remember it... just thinking about it makes me throw up a little bit inside of my mouth.

i live in shark attack central but i'm more afraid of stingrays. you should see me shuffling down the beach like an idiot because i'm afraid to pick up my feet. you can lose your leg (and worse) from stingray hits.

to be fair, we don't usually get the superhuge sharks down here like they do on the west coast, just the ones that chew you up and spit you out with a few more "character marks" on your body.

My sister's childhood surfer friend was torn to shreds by a shark when we lived in Barbados...very sad.

i made the mistake of watching a shark documentary right before i went to Kauai (one of the biggest shark attack places on the planet)..

nothing like a relaxing time in the ocean fearing imminent death every second via being torn apart by razor sharp teeth

hehe, no.
Not sharks in lakes.
But sturgeon yes.
Once my dad told me, as I was learning to waterski, that sturgeon will nip at your toes...I was 7!
Those things can get freaking huge, I think the ogopogo is just a giant sturgeon.

I heard that great whites can get upto a speed of 60 km/hr. That's why they come right out of the water when they're going for something on the surface. I think you'd die from impact before getting eaten. I also heard if its a smaller shark, try to jab it in the eyes.

Not quite the middle, I'm close enough to the west coast.
Although I've never swam when in Vancouver...
Hmmm giant strugeon in the lakes round here???

The ogopogo of the Okanagan gives me the heebeejeebies. ;)

Also some of the mountain lakes are weird. They're so bloody deep and clear and I always wonder what the heck lives down there.

the only thing traumatizing about OPEN WATER is realization of having wasted 2 hours and 10 bucks.

that was actually the most overrated movie of last year. not KINSEY.

i'm sure darwin could say it better, but sharks have an important place in the food chain, just like all aquatic liffe. they just happen to be at the top of the chain.

I am grateful to floop for answering my questions
about the movie "Open Water" so I wouldn't have to go
see it and get all traumatized just to satisfy my curiosity.

The shark fear is probably due to the aforementioned
pop-culture images but I think it's also a primal thing.
Those suckers are nasty. Totally anti-social, so to speak.
Nothing redeemable or cute about a shark. Maybe
darwin can enlighten us as to a beneficial function that the
shark performs, but I don't know of any.

Chills.

Yeah the ocean is a scary thing.

Here's a question for Kim. If you were lost in the ocean, would you rather drown or be killed by a shark?

Tough one huh?

i think the last two generations have been psychiclly scarred by JAWS. if it weren't for JAWS, would so many people be afraid of sharks (as i am)?
