Posted - 01/07/2005 : 20:52:24 I am watching this movie on TV. It's so good but creepy. I haven't seen it in forever and it's so cool to catch up on it again.
Ohh here was a good part... DeNiro practically just bumped into Jodi Foster.
Anyone else seen it? |

If I think of any Kubrick stories I´ll pass em on, at the moment all I can remember is my friend designed the New York telephone directory for 2001 but wasn´t sure if they used it, wasn´t fond of Doug Trumbull or Bruce Logan, whom he called Trug Dumbull and Loose Brogan, and said Kubrick´s favourite expression at the time was ´like a bullet´, as in ´get yourself over here like a bullet.´

I don't know anything about Kubric as a person, but he was an amazing director. |

your friend should just be thankful that they got to work with Stanley Kubrick
really, you had a friend who worked on 2001? any stories?

Posted - 01/09/2005 : 09:50:47 I don't think he was vile, just very protective of his work and how he thought things should be done. A lot of people had a hard time working with him but still were glad afterwards that they had been part of it.
Back to topic, did you know that the guy who shot on Ronald Reagan in 1981 was inspired by Taxi Driver?

Posted - 01/09/2005 : 08:45:12 No I haven't, there's one on the DVD that I haven't got around to watching yet. Straight after the shining I went for dawn of the dead (original) and then Shaun of the dead and then dog soldiers.
Maybe I'll watch the documentry when I can't sleep tonight. I had heard he was quite a vile man.

totally. Scorsese is the king of using using pop music in movies. you can see how Wes Anderson (and so many others) have been influenced by him.
but he was doing that stuff all the way back in MEAN STREETS

Posted - 01/08/2005 : 09:03:10 That's Travis, not Trevor, Travis Bickle.
This filmn just exudes class. Also, its kind of violent, but not nearly as much as most films nowadays. I think this is a good thing, it proves a point that you don't have to use ultraviolence to shock.

Man, you know what's wild it has been a million years since I have seen it. I mentally got parts of Dog Day Afternoon confused with Taxi Driver. Different actors... diff. plots but I did it.
You know what is so weird, it didn't seem as violent. I think after seeing the movie Gangs of New York by Scorsese and Taxi Driver, also by him it just doesn't seem as violent.
It was cool seeing all these retro things. It would be cool if they could update the soundtrack and re-release it.

Posted - 01/07/2005 : 20:56:53 I saw it for the first time about two months ago. I really enjoyed the film, up until the end. I won't give away the ending, but I'll admit that I would have been a lot happier with the film ending about ten minutes earlier. I saw it with a friend of mine and it inspired him to cut his hair Trevor (DeNiro) style, which turned out really funny. Although the end of the film dissapointed me, I still give it very high marks.
