Clipping the tree in "Mon Oncle" HA HA HA

Noise of the ping pong ball always gets me in "Mr. Hulot's hoilday" always sets me off : )

"Trafic" WOW just looks great!!

These films MUST be seen!!!

I've seen 'Monsieur Hulo's Holiday, and it really is a work of comedic genius. I don't recall seeing any of his other films, unless at an early age on BBC 2 OR something. I suppose Chaplin and Keaton were big influences. There was a Tati retrospective at the IFI in Dublin a while back. 'Playtime' is considered another Tati classic, I think it was recently restored and remastered.

Monsieur, I too hold my hands up. I've never seen a Jacques Tati film. Can you tell me any more about him, I mean, why would Frank be inspired to write a song about the man? Is he still alive?

Ignorant and naive at the same time. i'm sorry.

Hm. I don't know what to do with Tati. His movies are marvellous visually--the movement of the camera, the timing, the little details in the background. But I don't find them all that funny. Except the tennis playing in Vacation. That's hilarious.

No picking on Godard. His movies are for looking at, don't let the silly pretentious dialogue and narration distract you from the main event. Besides, he's got a fantastic blog: http://www.iamthestallion.blogspot.com/2003_10_01_iamthestallion_archive.html

A sample entry:

Doors

Have you ever stopped to consider the majesty of doors? They are very useful things, these doors, and yet, they are almost completely ignored in western culture until they are not there. Once we notice that the wolves are wandering into our homes unfettered, or we are trapped in a room with four flat walls and little oxygen, we wonder to ourselves, "Why is there not a door here?" But, by that time, it is too late for us.

I tried but I don't like his films.
There's a funny scene in "Les vacances de Mr Hulot" and one in Mon Oncle, and the end of Playtime is great but all in all his films are boooooooooooooooring!

Early Godard films are great.

I grew up around these movies, as my dad collects these films. Even on a birthday he showed the film for my friends.

A great filmaker with a lot of talent... a classic and must see!

I definately rember Playtime and Mr. Hulot's hoilday the best.

He also has My Uncle and Trafic and a few shorts.... but I don't have a strong of a memory of these.

As a Frank Black fan (and a guy who likes cinema) you should really give it a try.

I recommend Mon Oncle. It is really beautiful, poetic, and it is also a very clever view of our urban society!
