Everybody likes a sad song from time to time.

I'm currently enjoying 'It's Too Late' by Carole King.

You got any favourites?

Christ...there are so many songs that give me chills. Being on a Nirvana binge lately, just about any song off of Unplugged is depressingly beautiful (note 'Jesus' and 'Where Did You Sleep...'). "You Know You're Right" is another one...when he belts out "Things have never been so swell / I have never failed to fail" the last time, I always get shivvers. The new song "Do Re Mi" on the boxed set is quite possibly one of the most amazing songs Kurt ever recorded. It's also one of the last songs he ever recorded, and it's so fucking depressing. The song is so musically and vocally beautiful; it sounds like a cross between REM and the Pixies/Frank Black.

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.

Ah, Ryan Adam's first album is lovely for sure. There's one or two on that.
Also, its kind of obvious, but Hurt by Johnny Cash.

Off the top of my head...

"Florida" by Vic Chesnutt
"Blue Tears" by The Black Heart Procession
"Liverpool" by Suzanne Vega
"Sea Song" by Robert Wyatt
and of course "Deep Wilson" by Kristin Hersh, one of the saddest songs ever.

"Just kill the one with the sword first."
"Ah," Reagan says, raising his waxed and penciled eyebrows, and cocking his pompadour in Shaftoe's direction. "Smarrrt--you target them because they're the officers, right?"
"No, fuckhead!" Shaftoe yells. "You kill 'em because they've got fucking swords! You ever had anyone running at you waving a fucking sword?"

Alright, alright, no unreleased tunes...

Laugh all you want, but I've always loved the Verve's Bittersweet Symphony.
