Posted - 11/20/2004 : 09:37:27 Can someone explain this to me? I believe it allows you to put a little more than 80 minutes (i've read up to 82 minutes) on an 80 minute CD-R. Will this still play on all/most players? What software do you recommend to overburn? Basically, i have no idea how to go about doing it, or what it will accomplish, but i'm very interested.

Posted - 11/22/2004 : 23:19:20 I just overburned a CD last nite, seems to be fine. =)
Usually if it's fucked, you'll just lose the files saved on the outermost part of the CD. Since this is just a bunch of MP3's (for Noexx, whom i met at the Pinback show!) a few might be lost, but it's not the end of the world.
I forgot the CD at home tho..stupid me..

Posted - 11/20/2004 : 15:20:09 Yeah, Nero is the easiest for over burning. 82 minutes is not a big deal, though you might have it report an error when you finish. If so, I would play through it and particularly the end/track markers to make sure the TOC and last track were recorded properly. If everything's okay, you should have no problem. If not, then you'll have to make it under 80 minutes. Some burners do it well and some don't. I've never done a 100 min overburn , but as someone said earlier, 2-5 mins overburn is usually not a problem at all. You do run the slight risk of damaging your burner if it's an older unit, but new ones generally don't have a problem. I'm not sure what else to tell you, but any questions, fire away.

Posted - 11/20/2004 : 12:09:16 I use Nero Burning Rom and some sort of update to do it. There's a little app in the same Nero package to test how much data you can fit in a single CD. Also, you'll need to change Nero's options to allow the overburning. My record is 820 MB in a 100 min CD.
But you'll find some problems playing them in some stereos, specially the old ones. Anyway 82 minutes isn't so much long, it will work easily.

Posted - 11/20/2004 : 09:52:11 Some people think that 80-minute discs mess up the data, scrunch it up too much, and suggest using 74-minute ones instead. But I've never seen that problem.
Is that what you mean?
