Well here is the situation.

The woman I work with in my office likes to listen to CHFI(crap radio) and Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Celine Dion and the list of crap goes on. So out of the kindness of my heart (and the sheer disgust in her taste) I brought a couple of CD's of my own that I thought she might enjoy...and try to broaden her horizons with. I brought some Fleetwood Mac, John Lennon, Sade, Erykah Badu, James Taylor. She listened to it for the first week...but then it was back to the same old crap again... What to do what to do. I've tried...But to no avail.

Probably unhelpful, but maybe try just taking (EDIT: forcible) control of the stereo. Thats what I did, and now the office listens to what I want to listen to which is nice. They've actually taken a liking to some of the CD's, particularly Low. But we now have a range, from Pixies to Mercury Rev to JSBX to RJD2 to the Stones.

If I'm feeling magnanimous, I'll let my boss have some say. This can be risky, as his taste varies from minimalist guitar noise and Tony Conrad to Scissor Sisters and Diana Ross. Go figure.

Hey Darwin... sounds like you have some hr experience. Seriously.

That sucks coldheart of stone. That was so nice for you to purchase the cds.

Some other things you can do, listen to your music on headphones, which i like becuase less people will bug you...talk to the person playing the music and ask if for an hour or two she will let you placy some music, find other people that don't like the music and talk to the manager... good luck.

It's pretty pathetic that James Taylor was your compromise.

Reading this thread Iīm just feeling so lucky, because I listen to all the music I want the whole day, as I have my own office (not as loud as I want sand sometimes). But I just couldnīt stand having to listen some kind of music...and I work much better when Iīm enjoying what Iīm listening!
Donīt know what you should do Coldheart, it must be very difficult to deal with it!

...Love, love, ain't this enough
Pushing around
To find little comfort in words
But words
Well they cannot love
Don't waste them like that
Cus they'll bruise you more

A guy I worked with listened to nothing but Oasis ick pubrock, at first I went the diplomatic route like trying to route his tastes off into something a little less appalling, Nick Drake, Jack Nitzsche and whathaveyou, but ended up making guerilla raids on the CD player to put on Meltbanana and Doolittle just to piss him off in 30second bursts. Yeah how do you tell someone who's forgotten how to perceive correctly they've forgotten how to perceive correctly? How horribly garbled your message gets between your lips and their brain.

Moving from the clown to the jester will mean moving from similar to same, from alike to identical, from comparable to analogous. Though applied differently, the colours used on one can be used on another, and a couple of changes of costume will rapidly transform the jester into a clown and the clown into a jester. Strictly speaking, they almost duplicate each other as regards clothes and function, the only difference between them, from a social point of view, is that clowns do not usually visit the palaces of kings.

When I worked in theatres they'd always let me work in the blood room because I'd sulk about the music (dreadful) everywhere else, it was a one woman room with a CD player, Me and my CD's. Happy days

You might start a war.

A buddy of mine had a coworker he had to be in the same room with.
She had the most horrible taste in music...like Trixter and Slaughter and Bad Company and Lynrd Skynrd and just some extremely awful, bad garbage.
One someone is that entrenched in shit, there is just no hope.
You superior taste translates into elitism and they will resent you.

Get away.
Get as far away as possible....or scare the shit out of them somehow.
Some strategically placed inverted pentagrams and the occaisional dried animal part might help.

Fuck it. Force her to listen to some Animal Collective or Thinking Fellers Union Local #282.

Let 'em riot. We're Sonic-fuckin'-Death Monkey.

This isn't anywhere near as bad as the muzak workplace from
hell but ... I used to ski in this one place where they would blast
the worst crap from the loudspeakers by the main lift. Nothing
worst when you're starting a run or coming down from a fun
time on a mountain and you hear Celine's voice booming
onto the until-then beautiful snow. They loved to blast this particular
piece of crap:

'Cause I am your laaaaaaady
And you are my maaaaaaan
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

What to do:

1) invest in earplugs

2) destroy the vessel of musical transmission (computer, radio, whatever...) preferably beyond any hope of repair

3) yell "TURN OFF THAT FUCKING SCHLOCK" every time a muzak hit comes on. Do so at the top of your lungs. Throw things at the perpetrator for added effect

option #1 may be your best bet. The other ones might get you fired or sued, even though they will be far more effective.

Don't you sometimes wish your heart was a heart of stone.
(ugh I can't believe I even wrote that...)

Actually I got some friends who listen to some serious crap, and they think I listen to crap. I just had to accept it and suffer through it on road trips...
