They are talking about building space elevators to transport stuff to and from the moon. Pretty neat eh?

Where's my hovercraft? Where's my jetpack?

whatever happened to the 3 day working week eh? i know i'd feel rejuvenated and could guarantee greater productivity...

however in truth i fear that the three day working week is a cop out

i'm still waiting for the robots to pull out there silicon fingers and start doing the work they're supposed to be doing.

they were supposed to serve us.

Like how by the year 2000 people would only have to work three days a week?

Moving from the clown to the jester will mean moving from similar to same, from alike to identical, from comparable to analogous. Though applied differently, the colours used on one can be used on another, and a couple of changes of costume will rapidly transform the jester into a clown and the clown into a jester. Strictly speaking, they almost duplicate each other as regards clothes and function, the only difference between them, from a social point of view, is that clowns do not usually visit the palaces of kings.

LOL

You see this is the kind of stuff we were promised last century and we've been badly ripped of so far.

We need more kitsch 50s sci-fi ideas...

Will it be an express elevator to the Moon, or will there be stops along the way?

Full circle...

I can't remember for sure, but I think its in "Green Mars" by Kim Stanley Robinson...
The rebels on Mars fell the space elevetor, which wraps half-way around the planet when it falls. It was made of some futuristic carbon-based super substance that was converted to some highly valuable compounds at the point of impact - diamond-like substances. The 'cable' was huge in diameter and they created great mining devices that followed it around the planet extracting usefuls from the great black cable.
Need to go read that again...

Space elevators.

Life imitates science fiction.

Hell yeah.

Bring on the replicants!

It is an intriguing concept. Looks like it won't be just a concept for very long though.

I love Wallace and Gromit.

Seriously though it would make space exploration a lot easier as spacecraft built in space would not need to waste fuel battling the earth's escape velocity.
