Posted - 11/16/2004 : 10:51:53 I don't know if people remember those Anthrax cases that happened in Florida, right after 9/11, where people received letters with some powder in it, and some died. I remember people were arrested in France because they did some jokes, sending letters full of dust to others.
What are the conclusion of this story? Was it really a terrorist act? By who? Did someone got arrested?

Posted - 11/19/2004 : 09:26:49 Yeah, I don't get this Scare of the Week thing. If I'm going to be genuinely worried about something, it tends be something I am constantly in fear of over the course of many years, not just because the TV tells me to be scared of it for the time being.

Posted - 11/19/2004 : 09:22:49 Yeah, after over a year of being bombarded with it, I think it just got to be too much for the general populace to have to be scared and angry and powerless. Either that, or there was an intent to keep it out of the media to avoid complete hysteria. Probably it was a little of both and then some. It's amazing what people are more than willing to forget when they are faced with something on a daily basis.

Posted - 11/19/2004 : 09:18:17 Thanks for the answer. "It was a nationwide scare". We talked a lot about that in France too. Nobody seems to care anymore.

Posted - 11/19/2004 : 09:03:26 remig, it's been buried for years now, but I remember the Capitol building being shut down for quite a long while, and some Senate offices. I'm not sure, but there may still be a couple of offices still closed for cleanup. Several mail facilities were contaminated as well. It was discovered in at least Florida, Washington D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, and New York. I seem to remember a couple dozen people died, thousands of people went on Cipro, an old lady died many months later in another state (New Hampshire?) It was a nationwide scare. There was one guy that used to work for the government that the FBI called a "person of interest", but that man has been claiming he was innocent the whole time. He lost his job, and has been followed 24/7 since the incidents. There were some other anthrax incidents after he was under surveillance.
It's never been even remotely close to being solved. I wish I knew/remembered more too. You might want to check out www.thememoryhole.com - they try to retain this kind of news that gets lost in the media.

Posted - 11/16/2004 : 11:52:59 I had a similar situation when I worked at the store called San Diego. We sold the most random shit...from fart jokes to ceramics, i swear the store was insane (along with everyone that worked there). AAAAnyways, we recieved a package that had some "mysterious white powder" on it so we were sent home and the store was shut down for the day. That was a good day.

Posted - 11/16/2004 : 11:05:00 Remember the ricin scare in London? They found some men of 'middle-eastern extraction' concocting some ricin poison in North London.
That turned out to be about 10 minutes walk from where I lived at the time. Nice eh? One to tell your mum about, along with the shootings at your local.

Posted - 11/16/2004 : 11:00:46 Course it was to pitch the fear up another notch, perhaps after New Yorkers had spent a few days walking around on and breathing in the groundup remains of their loved ones, popular support for flying thousands of miles to do the same to another bunch of people who had nothing to do with the tragedy wouldn't have been what it was without another few incidents to first put the shits up an already terrorised population. I like this article, written by a priest at Ground Zero. http://www.ratical.org/ratville/JFK/JohnJudge/linkscopy/Ground0Rpt.html

Moving from the clown to the jester will mean moving from similar to same, from alike to identical, from comparable to analogous. Though applied differently, the colours used on one can be used on another, and a couple of changes of costume will rapidly transform the jester into a clown and the clown into a jester. Strictly speaking, they almost duplicate each other as regards clothes and function, the only difference between them, from a social point of view, is that clowns do not usually visit the palaces of kings. |
