This link is half-game, half-gallery. I think you'll really
like it.

Check this out at your own risk -turn off activeX if you're using IE, and javascript. Make sure your virus scanning sw is updated and turned on.

I'm afraid after all that, it's probably not fucking worth it. <sigh>

Care to post any sites of interest you've found recently?

I think so. I used your hubby's advice, but I couldn't find the file to delete. I take that to mean that virus scan zapped it. Since then, I've been pouring hot chicken soup into my floppy drive and applying cool compresses to the monitor. We'll be back on our feet in no time!

Thanks Surfer. I'm on a Mac too, and don't use IE. Makes things a little bit easier, but then I'm unfortunately oblivious to others' pain sometimes.

B3ta has a site about tea that my sister passed along to me, called www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com - it's pure silliness. They do have some lovely reviews of biscuits though. ;)

Sir Rockabye, any luck cleaning up your 'puter?

I found a neat site with a link to an Air Force study involving Al Gore and teleportation.

Apl if you enjoy rathergood - and haven't discoved B3ta.co.uk or B3ta.com go play - they're the site that originally championed rathergood (not everything on there is work safe though).

Equally fun and beautiful is http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/

and for further silliness

http://www.weebl.jolt.co.uk/

Don't bitch if there are virus thingy or such like - I'm on a mac and oblivious to such nuisances.

Thanks for the advice Spudboy, will do.

A little reaserch yeilds that you may need to boot into safe mode to delete the file C:\Windows\System32\MTC.dll - This is what is creating the new toolbar in IE and Windows Explorer if you have this virus. Any major antivirus should be able to remove the rest of it (registry entries, etc). Some people report bookmarks blown away, but most browsers have a backup somewhere.

ActiveX & JavaScript are so evil.

It offered to clean the detected file, but it was unable to do so. I then attempted to delete it, and now I'm running another scan to see if it was a success. Fingers crossed...

Does your virus detection software offer removal capability?

Sir Rockabye Posted - 11/11/2004 : 15:57:11
Wait. I opened the site, and now I've run virus scan and a virus has been detected. What can I do?

No kidding. This blows. Sorry guys.
I'm going to edit the original post.

So! Any other sites of interest?

Ah. I see the issue. I don't use IE and it is invoking ActiveX controls. IE is very very insecure. Even the security guy at Microsoft has been outed as avoiding it.

Based on the source code, I'd say this is a fairly poorly executed, yet complex, hack to the site. Odd mix.

Thanks for the heads up though KSR

Spud, close all browsers, clear all IE temp files, tighten up the security settings in the "internet zone" in IE and try it again. You'll see the prompts for the push and you can say no, BUT - it still pushes stuff to IE that it doesn't detect.

I'd say update whatever viruscan stuff you have and run it. If you didn't see prompts, it got you.

To those detecting Virus infection in this link: what are you using to detect it? I'm just curious, as I got no such message. Do you go to other Flash-based sites without issues?

My computer detected a Trojan Virus in your link, Apl.

My mac was having none of it earlier - works beautifully on (evil evil hiss spit) pc though. I see he won a yellow pencil for his work - well deserved.
Apl I've got a couple of beauts I'll try find/remember where the hell I've stuck them for you tomorrow.

Don't feel bad apl.

You didn't connect some shitty spyware to your site!

Hmm, ok. That's a flash 7 pop up - that's where the game is.

Unless it's something else.
KimStanleyRobinson Posted - 11/11/2004 : 14:39:29
It worked this time, but it pushes some kind of bullshit plugin or something. My viruscan caught it...

Weeeeeeird. It works just fine for me. What the hell?

OK, any neato website suggestions that aren't as lame as my crappy twilight zone-ish elusive site?

Well, I'm glad you at least had fun dayanara. I thought it was the most beautiful flash animation I've ever seen. And that guy's sense of humor is great. The first part of the game with the crows really cracked me up (the apple part, believe it or not).

My guess is he's a big fan of Andrew Bird too. The soundtrack is wonderful.

Anybody find any sites recently that they like? I'm interested in some internet diversion, and unfortunately rathergood.com seems pretty tapped out these days. ;)

dayanara Posted - 11/10/2004 : 20:33:20
That was fun, but it would have been more fun if I had a mouse that was worth a damn so I wouldn't have to yank it all over the table. I got stuck on the second one for way too long, but it was smooth sailing after that. I liked the little "Close Encounters" reference.
