i think its funny that baltimore is "the city that reads" yet it has (i'm pretty sure) the highest illiteracy rate of any major city in the country

the last time i was there i was going through some tough times (break up / car accident) and the weather was shitty for a solid month and a half. i think i projected all my inner turmoil on the city, and came to hate the place. but then later realized that it wasn't the city so much.
it is depressing how much widespread poverty and violence there is though..

I spent 10 years of my life there. Seriously, it ain't so bad. I don't mind going back to visit for a couple days at a time. My Dad said Baltimore was like flypaper-- few people born there manage to leave alive. But Baltimore has produced its share of unique individuals such as Poe, Mencken, John Waters, Al Kaline, Zappa, et al.
Oh, and David Hasselhoff. |

i spent some time living in Baltimore recently, on two separate occasions. initially i kind of hated its guts, but i came to appreciate its charms. you just have to look really hard.
did you know that Baltimore was voted the "City With The Ugliest People" in the US last year? not kidding.
