Posted - 10/31/2004 : 15:38:17 My computer won't start up at all (I'm using a friend's computer right now). I have XP and when it gets to the welcome screen to log in, the computer automatically shuts down, like someone is pushing the switch. I assume it's some kind of virus. Does anyone have any ideas?

Posted - 11/01/2004 : 04:21:02 Does it count down from 60 seconds before shutting down? That is a common problem (well, virus) that can be easily sorted by downloading some windows security updates. |

Posted - 10/31/2004 : 21:39:42 weird coincidence. my flatmate had the same prob yesterday. we found out that is some malicious software that won't let you log in windows. he used a windows emulator booting from cd rom and then changed the registry from there, in order to eliminate it. must be some new kind of "virus"

Posted - 10/31/2004 : 15:58:05 it could be hardware or software.
try remounting all the cables as mentioned above, one at a time to make sure you don't mix anything up.
if that fails it's very likely you will need to repartition, reformat and reinstall XP to make sure your system is totally clean. |
