I was debating whether or not I should watch The Passion of the Christ. Should I or shouldn’t I? There is so much they’re to talk about. Yet, there is so much their not to talk about. In the end I decided not too. It’s not worth it. The movie is not for me. And I don’t believe (maybe I’m being too presumptuous) that it’s really anygood talking about this shit, but it’s just my little way of saying fuck you. And fuck your hateful, sleep inducing, Jesus Christ this is taking way too long I’ll crawl up on the screen and carry the fucking cross myself just to get it over with movie.
The movie is irresponsible, devoid of any faith, hope or spirituality and one of the worst pieces of religious propaganda ever made. But, even worse than all that is that it is one of the most poorly scripted and shot films I have ever seen. I swear John Woo must have directed 2nd Unit with all the fucking pointless slo-mo’s. The only thing missing was a flock of doves. Hey Mel, next time you make a film based on the life of Jesus Christ try writing more than just a fucking third act. Or, better yet watch Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ. But I digress. I could go on for pages ranting my hate for this film but I won’t. Like I said, this movie is not for me. It’s for people who mourn their faith rather than celebrate it. It’s for people who instill the fear and wrath of a vengeful God in their followers rather than the compassion and hope of a loving one. One that you decide is right for you. Not what some other asshole says you have to believe or you’ll fucking go to Hell.
Faith and spirituality should be a celebration and not a fucking violent (for violence sake) sadistic death march. And just so you know the violence is not that bad. It’s just pointless and repetitive. It serves no other purpose than to point and say, “Look, you see what he did for you? Now follow him and more important follow me blindly.” Kind of like our president who expects us to follow him blindly into a hateful and violent war all while tap dancing around every issue except his tunnel view of God. It’s just sad. I’m not a religious person. Hell, I don’t know if Jesus really existed. But if that’s what you believe fine. The story of Jesus is a good story. A great one in fact. I just wish a lot of these people would concentrate on the more compassionate aspects of the story rather than the hateful ones. But that’s religion for you I guess.
In the Dali Llama’s book Ethics for the New Millennium, he states that there are two simple reasons why people go to war: Religion and Race. He also calls for a spiritual revolution rather than a religious revolution. Spirituality he says is a unifying feeling while religion is a divisive institution. One will ultimately decide that they are better than the other. True. How True. So, people of the world I implore you no matter what your faith, spirituality, religious beliefs, race, sexual orientation or if you like to fuck sheep just keep on lovin’ each other.

Posted - 11/03/2004 : 17:24:09 I liked the evil baby. Some times when I walk in the woods at night, I hear suckeling sounds. Those are evil babies. They are very dangerous and crafty, so beware! Sometimes they will disguise themselves as things, like sandwiches, but they are really evil babies. I could really see why some viewed this movie as anti-sematic, but I really liked the latin and aramaic only languages. I still wish Gibson had followed through on his origional idea and had no subtitles what so ever. My favorite thing was still the evil baby.
the sound of ataris kills me and my friends 'cause we know that we'll never go back there again sometimes we play playstation but it's not the same |

Posted - 11/03/2004 : 13:02:25 I never said the violence was "good" per se. For someone who believes Jesus was the son of God, seeing what happened is meaningful. If you don't believe that, then it's just watching something very unpleasant. I understand many people on this site are leery of religion, and to some degree I can see why. Some very scary things have been done in the name of religion. And certain Christian sects have some scary, exclusive beliefs. Personally, I don't believe there is one "right" religion out there while all of the others are wrong. Anyone who believes they belong to the one true religion while all others are going to Hell, seems to have missed the whole point. I guess I was just surprised by all the controversy this film generated. |

Posted - 11/02/2004 : 14:29:30 To Saltym, I can't quite agree with all of your points. While I can understand how a non-Christian would find it tedious and over the top, I don't agree that it was devoid of any faith or hope. I think he simply wanted to make a movie about Jesus, and show how it really was. Was it hard to watch? Yes. But that was his intention. I can't say I "enjoyed" the movie. I mean, how do you enjoy watching a man get cruxified? But I respect his right to make his movie the way he wanted to make it. It really was a movie made for Christians. If you don't believe in Jesus, then I can see why you wouldn't want to subject yourself to watching that. But if you do, it's somehting to think about. And I didn't get a sense that "if I don't believe I'll go to Hell" from watching it. I would never tell anyone what they should or shouldn't believe. So I would say if you are a Christain, you will probably get something out of this movie. If you're not, you probably won't enjoy it, or get too much out of it. I would forewarn anyone, it is very violent. So make sure you can handle that. |

Posted - 10/31/2004 : 09:44:40 I watched this last week just for the fact that I think its a pretty good story, ya know, the Bible, and because I had nothing else to do other than to watch a DVD of anything. It's very graphic, and you're right Saltym, it's pretty repetitive. there are only so many minutes I can take of a man being brutally whipped to death and back. I have issues with things like the Bible and/or religion. Too much hypocrisy and contradictions me thinks, but thats my problem. I don't understand why a few need to debate whether or not to watch, personally i just treated it as another flick to watch in my boredom.
For any of you who hasn't seen it, if you want to see a human being treated like shit and being slowly killed to death through one hell of a witch hunt then I recommend. If you have a few hours to..er..."kill", it won't be two hours wasted. |

Posted - 10/31/2004 : 07:53:15 Keep in mind that all movies shouldn't be the same format. It would suck if all songs, films, and books followed anyone's 1 idle.
Let there be G, PG, PG13, R, X, short, long, pretty, ugly, violent, different versions of a story. I doubt Mel Gibson claims his movie to be a general, overall summary of what happened according to the bible. He simply adds a unique touch, his artist touch.
