Posted - 10/28/2004 : 12:10:12 I’ve sort of hit a wall with finding new music to listen too and was wondering if anybody could recommend a Band/Artist & a (good) song by them in order that I can listen to the song and see if I like the band (– hopefully the song is a good representation of their music).
I know that this question has probably been asked (too) many times but, I listen to completely different music to all of my friends so unless I ask on the internet I am a little stuck on what to listen too next.
Thanks… |

I tend to agree with most of these reviews, and these are mostly bands that aren't very well known, so have look around. I love this site.

Thanks for all of the recommendations (I have such a backlog now all of the bands shall have probably splitup before I listen to all of them)...
Anywayz Thanks again... |

Sorry greg, I couldn't help myself.
I've got Wide Eyed Fools from their last album, Log 22 in my head. I would recommend something from the new album, but I haven't got my copy yet.

Posted - 10/28/2004 : 14:57:27 Okay, here goes:
The Unicorns: Who Will Cut our Hair when You're gone? The New Pornographers: Either Mass Romantic or Electric Version The Fiery Furnaces: Blueberry Boat (This one took ages to get into, but now it is so worth the effort)
I know these have all been mentioned, but I just second those motions.
Oh, and also check out Erase Errata. I've been listening to them a bit lately, really catchy stuff.

And also: 50 Foot Wave. You would be a fool to not get this.

Posted - 10/28/2004 : 13:00:36 I agree with most of what Mike recommends, except that while I enjoy Blueberry Boat intellectually, it doesn't really move me. If that makes sense. Also, fie on the Constantines.
Interpol's new record I've been listening to at work on repeat since 8 this AM. I don't know if I could say it's better than Turn on the Bright Lights. Nor different. TOBL has NYC after all...

Posted - 10/28/2004 : 12:56:44 I've been spinning "Give Up" since back in the day. It all started with the Dntel song "This Is the Dream of Evan and Chan". I didn't much care for the rest of Life Is Full of Possiblities, but that song seemed... full of possibilities! That was the first collaboration between Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello. It was so good, they formed the Postal Service. Did you know they're re-releasing Give Up on vinyl with tons of extras? More here: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/04-10/28.shtml#story3 |
