Posted - 10/26/2004 : 10:29:07 My band is opening for The Unicorns in a couple days. I haven't really heard their music, except for part of one song, which doesn't really count. It seems like they're a rather well-known band. From what I've gathered, they're bizarre, especially their live show, so it sounds as though it'll be a fun concert to be part of. Anyone here know much about them?

Posted - 12/23/2004 : 06:29:00 I have not heard anything by them yet but my attention has been drawn from reports of their live shows. Of the three UK shows that they played last month, one was curtailed after their keyboard melted and they were chased out of the venue by angry security, one ended when they split up onstage and one was really amazing apparently.
Sound good to me.
Help me! He keeps making me post!

Posted - 11/01/2004 : 06:18:15 The show was crazy. While I've done open mics before, this was the first official show I've ever played. There were around 300 people packed into the place. I was nervous but managed to persevere and rock out. It was crazy playing to this mass of people, especially since it seemed like many of them were really into our show. Hearing a massive roar of approval after each song is a good feeling.
The Unicorns were an entertaining show. They sure are talkative on stage. Towards the end of the show, some kid yelled at them to tell their drummer to learn the right parts to the songs, and one of the Unicorns (one with longer hair) said, "What the fuck did you say?" and had the kid get up on stage to try to play the right drum parts. Of course the kid couldn't do it. Another time the same Unicorn pointed at some guy in the audience and said, "You! Get out of here right now. I don't like the look of your mustache. No, don't fucking laugh. If you're not out of here by the end of this song..."
Some people thought that particular Unicorn was an asshole. I got the impression it was an act, but what do I know. I had a brief exchange with him after the show and he was nice. I went to a party that the Unicorns were at later on in the night, but I had trouble finding the place and by the time I got there, they were just leaving.
I wish you Unicorns fans could have been there and seen them as well my band. How were their shows that you attended? I didn't see much of Besnard Lakes, the band they're touring with. I was tired after playing our show and needed to get out of that crowded room and out in the air for awhile, though what I caught of their show was rather cool.

Thanks!

Posted - 10/28/2004 : 22:00:16 I remember recommending the Unicorns for the Music Ring ages ago and no one really enjoying them for the most part, it's amazing how much peoples views have changed since then.

Posted - 10/26/2004 : 15:36:40 Oh man, Tartar, how I envy you. I'm seeing them in Asbury park in a few weeks. Hmm, maybe my band could get on the bill somehow. I really love WWCOHWYG, and agree it is one of the best albums of recent years. The Unicorns' first album is called Unicorns are people too, and I'm yet to find a copy. I did find about half the songs online in some form or another, as well as several rarities. If I can dig up their source, I'll post 'em. Congratulations, man.
Edit: Okay, found that link. http://www.cs.mcgill.ca/~abatko/unicorns/music/
Turn the spit on that pig and kick the drum and let me down. Put my clarinet beneath your bed 'til I get back in town.

Not trying to be a smart ass but it's actually their 2nd album. The first one is next to impossible to find though.

No, the pic of me, Peter Cook, in the Info- The Band section is not really me, though I wish it was. I just joined recently so they don't have any pics of me in action yet. This will be my first show with the band.

Posted - 10/26/2004 : 10:34:15 I love the Unicorns! Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone is a terrific record. I sadly missed them when they came through town, but I will not make that mistake again! I've heard they're quite mad, so the show should be a blast. I highly recommend their album, and I envy you getting to open for them! |
