http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/04-10/12.shtml
"Aaron Mandel reports: Holy shit, Slint are reforming! We know, you got that from the headline, but we just needed a moment with our feelings.
As previously reported in Pitchfork, speculation has been swirling recently around the possibility of the Louisville post-rock pioneers jumping back in the lake together, metaphorically speaking. As previously kept secret from Pitchfork, however, this is really happening. Slint will curate and perform at the first All Tomorrow's Parties festival of 2005, scheduled for February 25th-27th at Camber Sands in England.
ATP's announcement cited Brian McMahan, David Pajo and Britt Walford, the three members who formed the core of the group for their two landmark albums, as the lineup for the reunited band. (Even though the group usually travelled as a foursome.) Slint are currently the only band named on the festival's website as performers. However, now that the cat's out of the bag, we expect the other acts to start rolling on in.
The list of bands that the various Slints have been involved in since their 1991 breakup is almost as impressive as the list of bands they inspired: All three of them (as well as sometime bassist Todd Brashear) have worked with Will Oldham in Palace; Pajo spent time in Tortoise, and Walford played with Sally Timms and Evergreen. The only glimmers of actual Slintitude over the past 13 years, however, were the posthumous release of a self-titled EP in 1994, and brief appearances by Pajo and Walford in McMahan's The For Carnation.
There are no hints to be found, as yet, about what Slint will be doing after All Tomorrow's Parties; in keeping with the murky tone of their music, the band are not tremendously forthcoming about such things. But hey, a week ago this reunion thing was itself just speculation, so we can be patient. Kind of."
"Word is they'll be playing a show ...in Louisville at the beginning of next year." (from brian at www.x13design.com/bipolar)
Ahhhhh, the Louisville music scene is coming back to life. God I want to move back even more now. Just wish we could find good jobs there.
RIP Rest In Peace Jacques Derrida. rasta. ruowa. freedom from activity. a brief pause in reading. a rhythmic silence in music.
edit: Pitchfork failed to mention Britt Walford was also part of the Breeders for a spell.

"Slint Reunion Tour 2005 [Dave Pajo]
I would like to thank everyone for supporting Slint all these years. Its been a long time since we wrote that music, born of our own young hearts. We could have easily slipped through the cracks like millions of other bands. Maybe we did, in some people’s eyes, but I don’t think so. Slint was in for the long burn - we never seemed to leave public consciousness, staying in a slow simmer to be discovered by subsequent generations. You can’t imagine how strange that is.
Your support has kept, and continues to keep, us alive throughout the years. We can only hope to return that support by giving y’all the chance to hear those songs live. It’ll never happen again and its a great way to close the book on a very enigmatic band.
What I’m trying to say is - thank you.
In the meantime, there are a couple of questions I’d like to address:
1. “Why aren’t you playing [your city here]?”
This gets asked frequently and all I can say is, keep visiting the website (www.papa-m.com), watch for ads in local weeklys, and stay current. We will be releasing updates with show confirmations and ticket sale times frequently. The tickets have been going fairly quickly so be sure and hold some when you hear about it. Also, if you’re a friend, go ahead and buy tickets anyway because we don’t have any kind of guest list (more on that below).
2. “What other bands are playing All Tomorrow’s Parties?”
This is also difficult to answer because we’ve ASKED a lot of bands but no confirmations as of yet. We will issue a list of all confirmed bands once this has been established.
3. “Can [your band here] play at ATP with you? Can [your band here] support you guys on your tour?”
We are swamped with submissions but we take each one seriously, so don’t be shy.
4. “Dude, you can get me in, right?”
This is the toughest of all. Because ideally I would get all my friends in to any show they want. But the difficulty is, between band and crew, we know so many people and businesses that we spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about guest list hierarchy in every city and not enough time thinking about song arrangement and tempo! Imagine ten people in our travelling party, each with friends in every city. Then imagine all the businesses we work with (management companies, booking agents, publicists, record labels, etc.) that want all their employees to get in. Add to that the guest list of various press people, journalists, people associated with the venue, friends of venue employees, etc. Now imagine how tiny our guest list is… You get the picture.
But despite all that, what bums me out the worst is that I can’t invite some people and not invite others. In the past, the only way to resolve this issue (mostly only in the bigger cities) is to issue a no guest list policy. Unfortunately it’s the only way. But I prefer it this way for many reasons. Some people are irked by this but I’m the type of guy who would rather pay to see my friend’s band play than get in for free. Some people pride themselves on not paying for shows. But I’m the type of guy who never asks to be on someone’s guests list, unless a show might be sold out. In which case I ask them to reserve a ticket so that I can pay at the door. What better way to support your friend’s band than with your money AND your presence?
In short, this is a no-guest-list tour.
Happy holidays people and stay warm,

If anyone wants to go I suggest you get tickets as soon as possible - our guest list is virtually non-existant and unfortunately I can’t get everyone I want in to the shows. Hope to see you there! *if you can’t make it or aren’t interested, please forward this to anyone in Chicago you think might want to see the show - it won’t happen again!* DP"

Posted - 12/14/2004 : 08:04:33 I know how ya feel, Chris, Chicago is about a 6 hour drive for us too, but hey, I can't pass up this kind of road trip! You might want to check if there are any tickets left for Seattle (might be sold out as well), though, because they have just announced the rest of the US tour:
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/04-12/14.shtml
Rob Harvilla reports: Okay, only from four to eight shows, but still...[removed obnoxious blather ]...The revised, updated Stateside tour regimen now reads thus:
03-10 San Francisco, CA - Great American Music Hall * 03-11 San Francisco, CA - Great American Music Hall 03-12 Seattle, WA - The Showbox 03-18 New York, NY - Irving Plaza + 03-19 New York, NY - Irving Plaza + 03-20 Boston, MA - The Roxy $ 03-25 Chicago, IL - Metro 03-26 Chicago, IL - Park West
* On sale Sunday, December 19th + On sale Friday, December 17th $ On sale Thursday, December 16th
As previously reported, Slint remain the curators of the All Tomorrow's Parties hoedown February 25-27 at Camber Sands in merrie olde England. Though sold out as well, the fest has yet to announce a lineup, which is frankly annoying, so we'll just make one up: Randy Newman, Wanda Jackson, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, Conway Twitty, The Sex Pistols, The Stooges, Lynyrd Skynyrd, J. Geils Band, and Gram Parsons. Take that, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! |

Camber Sands is Essex, I think, i.e. just east of London.
Did I miss the point somewhere? I can't get into Slint at all. I've listened to Spiderland several times, and I like a lot of vaguely similar bands, but Slint I just don't get. Ho hum, I'll live.
Plus, happy 4k Mrs Boy.

Posted - 10/26/2004 : 13:20:05 yeah, very bizarre, but great news. ATP was one of my best experiances this year, and would love to go next year, but alas i'll be on the other side of the earth.
i'd be a little careful however, ATP lineups have a nasty habit of changing quite markedly before the weekends come round from earlier versions.

I would love to get my hands on a recording of that reunion show if there were one. We recently also found two 7"s and a comp release: "Evergreen" self-titled 7", "Ghetto Defendant #4" CD has a really nice live track, and "Pants Off/Queen Song" 7".
This is the venue they played at on Derby Day (first Saturday in May, I forget the date). The band's site on Southern Records (hasn't been updated in ages).
And it looks like there's another free mp3 here, and here.

That's even cooler than Slint reforming. I had never heard of Evergreen until you put that song on here, and I ordered the disc shortly thereafter. It's since become one of my absolute favourite (sometimes top five) recordings in the world; is there any way to keep tabs on the band at all? Is there a recording available of this reunion show?
