I understand Frank's talent in voice and producing chords,
but what songs does he take over and solo on guitar?

It seems like it's mostly the job of the other musicians, such as Joey, etc.

...though he loved to rock and roll...

the dream is over bootleg gives a good idea at maybe how frank wrote pixies songs on his own. he fills in bass with his guitar's bass string, or the chords, or whatever. there are some cases where he plays some of the solos, sort of. maybe this is the only example, but one instance that i can remember now is in monkey gone to heaven, he plays some of what i'm sure joey plays on the studio version.

No.
I've already said that when I saw them play Announcement live, Frank was just singing and Lyle was the only one playing the guitar.
And I read in an interview that it was the same thing for the studio version.

As for the solos, besides the little one in Gigantic, I've never seen him play one.

Frank plays some nice stuff in the intro of Back To Rome, I recall...

I'm sure he plays the solo in Freedom Rock. Sounds like a trade off solo between him and Lyle during Space Is Gonna Do Me Good but I'm probably wrong about that. And it's quiet as shit but he may be playing an acoustic guitar solo in 21 Reasons.

actually, im pretty sure frank's guitar occupies the right channel only on COR, and the left channel for FB&tC's and Pistolero.

psychictwin - ive always felt the same way about Two Reelers - sick tempo work that i can't seem to figure out for the life of me - thought it was just me.

EXACTLY.

Lock the topic now.

I think a good way to get an idea for how he plays/solos would be to listen to COR or FB&TC and listen to that right channel. It's all him, of course. He may not do any real soloing per say, but he does play some fun stuff.

I would hardly call the last 10-second guitar mayhem (right channel, Frank's guitar) a "solo".....it rules, but it's just a thrashy litte breakdown.

So Frank plays the solo in Announcement? I find that hard to believe...just because it sounds so much like Lyle's handiwork

the intro/bridge part to "Two Reelers" is sick. As is the verse guitar part. That is one of the only Frank songs I have trouble actually figuring out/strumming correctly. It's fucking insane...

I was at a show when he was solo opening for TMBG. He did some pretty wild stuff when he played 'Two Reelers'.

that 3 note G-D-C part? I'd hardly call that a solo, Crouton

He also plays the small solo in "Gigantic".

I think he's said before that he's not that good at guitar. I doubt he could play anything too profound, but I may be wrong

I was thinking the same question. I would like to hear him solo without a band, just start playing a solo on the electric guitar, just to hear what he sounds like. Like right in the middle of a show the band stops and FB plays a 3 minute solo... or record one... I don't care if it's good or bad or whatever, I just want to hear it.

He takes a solo during the last ten seconds of "The Marsist". I could be wrong.
