Does anyone know if there is a product, a pedal, an effect, which creates a drum and bass line backing tracks that you can jam over like the Fender G-DEC? I'm thinking of buying a Fender G-DEC, but the only reason I want it is for the drum and bass line accompaniment. For those not familiar, it has a drum and bass line feature where you can change the tempo and key, style (blues, funk rock, etc). I know there are drum machines, CD's with jam tracks, and loop stations where you can loop a chord progression you can play with. I'm looking for something similar to the G-DEC where you play in any key and a number of different styles.

The G-DEC is loaded with 50 Performance Presets that each include a drum loop, bass line, guitar amp tone, and effects. There are 50 user presets, tons of guitar tones, drum loops, a metronome, and backing tracks in nearly every style so you can build your own backing tracks. You can edit, move around, and store all the Performance Presets. Each preset includes a guitar tone (built from the following ingredients: Amp Type, EQ, Compressor, Timbre, Noise Gate, and Effects) and a drum/backing loop including rhythm instruments.

70 drum/backing loops and a metronome are included so with the G-DEC you've got a drummer on tap anytime you want one. There are loops for Rock, Pop, Metal, Funk, Punk, Jazz, Country, Blues, Latin - pretty much any style you would want to play guitar over.

This sounds like PGMusic's Band-In-A-Box software, you can download a free trial. There are lots of free song downloads for BIAB on the net. I remember there was another similar piece of software, maybe Jammer, here's a list.

Microsoft had one strange idea I was going to look into, part of Microsoft DirectMusic, that sounded like it was meant to compose the background music for adventure games. Depending on an analysis of user input you could program it to use happy or sad instruments, change tempo and musical themes. (Microsoft's big idea, from the pure research initiative I think. I just read there was a software synth with DirectMusic at one time.)

I can't definitely recall a stand-alone box, although I vaguely remember Band-In-A-Box started that way.
