I've been waging the war between irony and sincerity pretty much day in and day out for the last few years, but despite it all (particularly more or less growing out of the Pixies and being generally annoyed by their return), I have to say that Mr. Black's "Teenager of the Year" is my favoritelabumofalltimeever.

This is, in no small part, due to the tone he gets on there. I mean, it's no spectacular Keith Richards shit, but it pretty much set the tone, as it were, for the rest of the '90s and still influences most straightahead pop-rock these days. It's fucking genius. Warm and shimmery with a really definite edge. And through a damn Marshall (which, try as you might, usually just end up sounding like Marshalls).

Anyways, to cut to it here, I was wondering if any of you guitar tech geeks out there who also happen to be fans of the screaming fat man have any idea of what his levels might have been on that recording, especially "Space is Gonna Do Me Good." Where is his toggle set? What about the tone knob on his tele? I mean, i know a lot of it has to do with the mic and the mic angle, so I guess that'd help too, but I'm not asking for any miracle workers. Just advice from people who think they can get it pretty close.

Thanks, society.

<3 Ryan
