Setup
I guess the way we'll work this is that I will build the compilation on my computer and when it's done, the final will get uploaded to the FTP site. If anyone has a better suggestion/problems with this, let me know. When you have a song done, just email me and we'll set up a way for it to be transferred to my computer. All songs will be Frank Black or FB&C's cover (NO PIXIES... yet). Also, covers of FB's covers are not allowed since that is equivalent to covering the original artist and not FB. May 1st is the deadline for committing to a song (not that we wouldn't take submissions after that, but those committed before that would get priority for sure), and July 1st (Canada Day!) for the songs themselves. Two months should be lots?
I'm not sure what level of input I should offer on this project (I'd love to hear opinions on this), but certainly I would like to ensure that all the songs on the said compilation sound good and are as good as they can be... check out this link for collaborators to help fill out your song:

I'd still like to, maybe i'll giver a go.. I'm in a new place, and have a slightly different recording arrangement i've got to start using..

I just saw this thread today, but wait a second...Dave Noisy was going to do a "Jesus Was Right", and it wasn't received? Is it too late for him to upload it as a b-side?

I just wanted to say thanks to Dave and everyone at Frankblack.net, and to FB and Ken Goes, AFC and all the graphic artists and musicians who contributed to this endeavor.
Plus, special thanks to Dean (Cult of Frank) for overseeing this crazy thing (and taking the inevitable heat that comes along with mutli-artist vanity projects like this).
I'm thrilled for my track to be included on the "album", but in truth am just as happy to have been a part of the process – regardless of where my cut wound up sitting on this site.
I'm looking very forward to hearing all of the submissions, and hope to be part of more such downloadable tributes in the future.

Well, you asked for it and here it is: the final list of tracks submitted for the Tribute CD. I'm still trying to get everything organized, so please get a hold of me as soon as possible if you've submitted your track and I've missed you on the list here, or if I've miscreditted you, etc. It's quite possible I have your submission and just missed it when making this list. We have (at least) 40 tracks out of 56 total, which, to be honest, is better than I think anyone hoped for. Congratulations to all of you on some great sounding tracks. I now retire to my quarters to listen to them all again and again and again and make some tough choices before Monday. I hope that we will have this disc finished and ready for your listening pleasure by mid-month. Keep an eye on the news page as well as the Chat thread and probably also here.

I have officially closed this list... no new people may sign on, no matter what the excuse (unless it is an oversight on my part), and the only change you should see above are TBA's turning into songs, perhaps a few people using their backup song, and I suppose a few people dropping out from the project. To those who missed their chance with this project, there are several ideas floating around for the next project which will start once this CD is complete, including a Pixies tribute CD and covering each album individually, both of which are excellent ideas and should be a lot of fun.
Thanks to the 56 participants in this project, I wish you all luck with your recordings. |
