I've been recently learning Pixies songs, and I was wondering if they use any distortion. Thanks in advance for any help.

i wish this was my thread, then i would say, "wow! cheers for that Doog, something I never knew"

i always wondered what BF used to get the sound on dead, not quite clean/not quite distorted

Yup, they sure do, although it might be better described as "overdrive"- it generally came/comes from pushed tube amps, although Joey used tube AND solidstate amps at one point. More "ughh" than "raaaah!" if you get what I mean. Not too much distortion but a lot of dynamic and force in the playing. And both Black and Joey used boost pedals to give their amps a little...uh...boost..
