Hi All,
Violet has posted the following over on her twitter page:
Grand Duchy's next record to be titled "LET THE PEOPLE SPEAK!"
I am not sure if this is a sarcastic response to the recent lack of tweeting (quite possibly the case!) or not. Some food for thought either way...

Who else thinks White Out would also make a really rocking Frank Black song?

I just watched Shady again it's growing on me as a song. Some of the lyrics put me off at first mainly- 'Let me tell you about trucks they've make a terrible sound, growling around like a wolf' that's just bad it's way down there with the lyrics to Life by Des'ree. Asides from that it's not a bad pop song.
Who is doing most of the song writing on the album anyone know? |

sadly the new stuff isnt for me, the first album was pretty good, the new stuff that i've heard just isnt for me....

OK I admit White Out is pretty good. Best GD song since The Long Song IMO. Basically because Violet really lets herself go in both songs. Sounds more honest to me.

Don't like Shady much but White Out, now that's the best thing I've heard since Fort Wayne. Reminds me of Kim Wilde or something, much better than Silver Boys. If someone had played that to me and told me it was the new single from Kim Wilde I would have believed it.
And I just noticed right at the start it shows a close up of Violets eyes and she has heterechromia! Looks like it's special effects but I don't know does she have heterochromia in real life? Weird that is the second instance of a woman on TV who has this condition in two days and just as Venus and Jupiter are aligning themselves up in the sky as well. What does it all mean...
It's certainly a cool freak eye condition to have anyway. |

The Gloom Prophet's remix album of the new Grand Duchy album is supposed to be out now. Found this on YouTube, doesn't really give much away though

You can listen to the first 1m30s of each track on iTunes, but they are remixes so doesn't give you much of a clue of what the actual album will sound like. Remixes don't sound anything special FWIH |

I came across this article called "in-studio with grand Duchy", which apparently was written in August of 2010, so I don't know if it's already been posted.
Anyway, it's written at the time of the recording of the album.

For the last two weeks Black Francis & Violet Clark have been back in the studio working on their second album, "Let The People Speak!". Longtime drummer and collaborator Jason Carter is lending a lot to the project and we were lucky enough to get a few questions in with him about how it's all coming along.
How're the Grand Duchy sessions going?
Fabulous and productive.
How is this record shaping up compared to Petits Fours?
Black gold.
Tell me about your roll in the process, I know you're playing drums as well
as doing the engineering, are you going to mix the record too?
Drummer, producer, recorder, mixer, housekeeper.
A number of the Frank Black & the Catholics records were recorded with a great mobile recording setup. I know this system was recently in your studio to test and catalog and that the best of the best outboard gear (compressors, preamps, EQ's) are still there. Are you getting to use any of these pieces on the project?
Yes.
Any other inside information you can divulge?
Willow (the family dog, a black cocker spaniel) has been a nice presence. Violet is keeping good control of the wheel, and is dancing. [Black] has created a new bridge to the pop world....
a kind of beautiful swinging narrow suspension bridge over a roaring river.
Oh, one more add... Silver has made her presence a few times with some sweet icing.

ok, now I got it! I have to say, I really like Petits Four, but it's true, what you say. to hear both sing together isn't really much the case on their first album. that'd be ace. I totally share your point of view now.. :) |

Ok i think you completely missed my point there- i'm saying i want to hear them both sing together, seeing as they both sing in the band, and i enjoy male/female harmony. I'm well aware it is not a solo Black Francis project, i realised this very early when i noted how i didn't care for a lot of Petits Fours. For me personally Frank is the selling point of Grand Duchy and i don't see him as a support player. |

First album had a few great songs. Can't help but say the GD vibe is a little... well... pretentious. Anything with Frank on board is always a gem though.

L hope there is far more harmony singing between him and Violet on this new one, in the vein of something like the Pixies version of Winterlong. I like Violet's voice but BF didn't sing enough on the first record. |
