That's too bad. I was looking forward to having it on CD with a couple of B-sides.

I've not been keeping up to date with this. Is it download only then? Or is there a 7"?

And has everybody who pre ordered the CD had an email about it being cancelled or something?

I just had it confirmed from CV that there will be no CD-single or 7-inch versions released, CP will be download only. There will be no b-sides either unfortunately.

Looks to me like you can pre-order it now and it will be available for download Sept. 3.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

I thought it was captain pas-tee too, still hear it even now, not enough songs about pasties imho
Czar Posted - 08/24/2007 : 17:32:51
I certainly don't agree. Apart from vague ressemblance in sound, melodies and musical signature with previous work he's done before, BF is in a different class, a class of it's own.

Do you think the Pixies were a brouillon of Black Francis?

Black Francis - Captain Pasty (Cooking Vinyl)
UK release date: 27 August 2007

Captain Pasty is an early offering from the
former Pixies frontman's forthcoming new album
Bluefinger, due out in September and dedicated
to Dutch modern artist/musician Herman Brood.
On first listen it heralds a return to the best days
of the Pixies. Gone are the introspective, country
acoustics - which perhaps explains the name
reversal, after using Frank Black as his more
usual nom de guerre these days.

While this is hardly unwelcome it does, inevitably, mean
that it's a step backwards, to post-punk growling and
furious guitars which, while he certainly does better
than most, he does no better here than he's done
countless times before.

As a taster of what's to come, it's both tantalising and
infuriating. He's made so many leaps and bounds in the
past decade that it would be a shame for him to stop
evolving. Except of course that if he did, short, sharp
post-punk shocks like this would be a very small price to
pay.

I'd love to know what's going on with this. Meanwhile some music webzine posted a (clueless but good) review for Captain Pasty:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a67539/black-francis-captain-pasty.html

<<Black Francis: 'Captain Pasty'
Released on Monday, August 6 2007
By Alex Fletcher

3/5 stars

Charles Thompson doesn't like to make things simple. Whether he fancies being called Frank Black, Black Francis, Frank Black and The Catholics or the plain old lead singer with The Pixies, he never seems quite content playing by the conventional rules of music marketing. While many die-hards will have been keeping their fingers crossed for yet further Pixies material after the re-union tour, Black has decided to delay their musical return by focusing on his solo album Bluefinger. 'Captain Pasty', released on August 6, is the first track off the album and it sticks to the usual Black formula of screaming vocals and clattering guitars.

While there is a slight tinge of disappointment that the track is not about a man's passion for the Ginster's pasty selection, anyone familiar with Black's material, or The Pixies' for that matter, should find themselves head-banging in approval to this thrash-along rock-out. At just over two minutes long, the track has little time for nuance or subtlety, with Black's sneering, snotty voice carrying a filthy, clunky guitar track to an abrupt, snap conclusion. The musical equivalent of being walloped in the face by a frying pan, offering enjoyment to those who seek their musical thrills in the extreme. >>

Why's that, because they'll pull it before release?

I can get to it through vilainde's link, but I can't seem to be able to search for it on the site. Strange. How on earth did he find it?

I think it could be Frank recording the vocals live, save for a couple of overdubs.
Grotesque Posted - 07/26/2007 : 03:22:20
Does anybody knows if there were some remix or overdubbs of Pasty since the leaked Bluefinger version?
I never understood why Frank's voice sounds so exausted on this song, like he's singing this just after waking up.
vilainde Posted - 07/26/2007 : 00:55:26
Sorry... :(
I thought everyone would get excited over this and I fucked it all up cause I wrote "EP" instead of "single"... And now I can't edit my post and everyone's mad at me... I think I'll just curl up and die in a pool of my own tears. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Seriously... I'd bet on the b-sides being the covers of Rockafeller Skank and History Song. Not my fave covers by Frank but I wouldn't be surprised.
