Hi langdonboom. Regarding 2 posts above:
FWIW, I haven't had the pleasure to listen to Ft. Wayne yet, so I can't evaluate any comments about that. I haven't heard but a couple of tracks of Christmass yet either. Same problem.
About Kim, the problem is that everyone is speculating about what perhaps might just as well possibly have happened, but nobody KNOWS what really happened. Still considering it did happen, it's still just a matter of taste. Even among Pixies/FB fans there are those that feel the Pixies belong in the past and should be left alone. What if Kim also feels that way? She has every right to feel that way, or to think that whatever Frank came up with was good, but not good enough to support the idea of a new Pixies album. I, for one, strongly hope that they will come up with something really NEW or just forget about it. You know, in the name of dignity. I don't want a sequel to Trompe le Monde. Yeah, I would buy and probably enjoy it, but it would leave me with a bit of a sad aftertaste. Many interviews show us that the Pixies themselves are afraid of something like that.
Or maybe, who knows, maybe Kim Deal liked the songs, but said "that's nice, Charles, but wait until you hear these couple ideas I just had" and maybe Frank agreed and they're cooking up something else right now.
Or maybe Santiago or Lovering vetoed something about the new Pixies album.
Maybe personal reasons got in the way and they didn't even have a chance to discuss the artistic issues.
Who knows?
In any case, I think it is very premature to blame Kim Deal for anything whatsoever at this time.
yeah, i agree with alot of that. I remember hearing an interview of charles saying that he and the other songwriter (kim) would get together and see what they could come up with. (i'm paraphrasing). first off i tohught it very cool for him to make it sound like they had equal input to the songwriting. he also mentioned like you said that they put out five great albums and didn't want to ruin that streak. rarely does a musician turn down potential money. and i think thats awesome that they did that. i know the album would have been awesome, but i respect their decision.
i wish they would just make one song every year and once they get like 20 just put those on an album. i don't hear alot about bam thwok or ain't that pretty at all here on the forum but those songs are sooooooo soooooooo awesome. Just one song a year charles. pleeeeeeeeeeeeeese.

I don't go with that, of course he may have checked somethings online but you can find lot's of expositions, a musuem an tons of books on Brood here. the statue of Herman Brood is placed at the venue were FB played lot's of shows with the Catholics. Zwolle isn't punkrock-city number one, nobody plays there, believe me. To me the only way that it makes sense that he played there was that he had a friend in the area. Maybe the club's promoter or something like that. So my guess is that he knows the place well. That's great, for a musician it's common to know Amsterdam or Utrecht, but Zwolle...no way. Frank is special

i'd be curious to hear from charles how he got into herman brood, and yes, how he did his research.

(although that list is quite unfair to FB & DW). And after 2 or 3 listens I'd say BF is around #3.

Oh, and I've got a theory on "Your Mouth Into Mine" that is really tenuous at best. I think he's singing to ... well, it sounds dumb to say it out loud ... a river. Don't know what river. Help me out, Jop. What river goes by Zwolle? I really think he's singing to some body of water, if not a river. (As in, the mouth of a river.) When I listen to it that way, it makes some sense, but I'm not really sure.
There are lots of references to drinking from this or that on the album, and mostly in a metaphorical sense, not like drinking from a bottle.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.
Interesting theory. I don't know, but... two things right off the bat. First, the very first verse in the song Bluefinger refers to a river that goes by his home town (Zwolle). Second, and I see a sizeable river going right by the edge of town, which confirms this. But, I don't see a name for the river.
The town is about 8 miles from the mouth of the river. So, you could be right!

I downloaded Bluefinger from eMusic about a week ago, but it wasn't up very long. As others have said, it was removed and might have been posted erroneously (and early).
In the meantime, if you're seeking a copy, I'd suggest that you spend time doing a good soul seek.

Posted - 07/26/2007 : 15:43:48 Maybe ol' Frank is doing an experiment to see if intentionally leaking a (good) album way early will affect record sales. He always tries new things. He knows it's good - having the leak generates buzz - the buzz leaks to the press, and the press has no choice but to give it 5 stars and praise its gloriousness. Mention Nirvana in the article about bluefinger, and viola! Gold record in the first week.
