Posted - 01/05/2007 : 05:59:53 This site claims to have an effective YouTube video grabber, called iTube:
http://www.benjaminstrahs.com/itube.php
You could try that. I'd be curious how well it works out for you. It's for a PC, and the only PCs I use belong to my employer, and I can't install things like this on them.
Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho? |

Posted - 12/18/2006 : 02:34:52 '' obviously, I have never seen the Pete and Pete show! ''
was the thing that went through my head when reading your last post. So I googled 'pete and pete' and I was shocked to see that weird show that was broadcasted briefly in the Netherlands. Funny how you can forget about things you watched as a child. Memories, nostalgia....blabla. Thanks Myles!

I just read that Mark Mulchaly was the singer of Miracle Legion, yes, the band of Dave McCaffrey and Scott Boutier
Yes that an interestig story. Scott and Dave quit Miracle Legion to join Frank Black as the Catholics. Mark then started his solo career. The 3 of them are also the band that you see at the begining of the Pete and Pete show on Nic. |

Here is my story on how this song came about. its actually the only all studio song on the album. the rest of the album is in chronological order (more or less) but this one was recorded after the tour was over - during the tour with the whole band. Which I was not on. I was back at the studio scrambling to get the CD out to you all by Christmas. Even still, it seems like it sits nicely in its place on the reocord.
On October 3rd Frank was playing a show in NYC. After the show he rented a car and drove up to Hartford and got a hotel. On the 4th I had Black Stone Cherry in the studio all day but we really wanted to try and get this new song down that Charles had just written. During the BSC session everyone took a break for lunch and Charles walked over to the studio. Its only about a block a way.
He recorded the guitar tracks on his Martin and then sang the song a couple of times thru. Right when he had to leave we did one more pass and he decided to try it as a whisper... I reached over and twisted the preamp on the mic all the way to full about 2 seconds before he started to sing. Its the mic being so hot and him singing so quiet that gives it that eerie sound. The vocal track is totally dry. no effects at all. And he sang this in one take all the way thru!
Charles hopped back in the car and drove up to Boston for another show that night. The next day Erik James laid down the B3 organ part and Mark Mulcahly drove down from Springfield to record the background vocals. Not sure how we came up with those parts - it just happened. It was one of those magic moments where everything just comes together.
Myles
for all you tech heads here is the recording chain: guitar - Martin into a countryman DI, into a Universal Audio 2-610 tube preamp. vocals - a Neumann U87ai (with a Stedman metal pop filter) into a Groove Tubes Vipre Tube Preamp, into a DBX 160SL compressor, into a Digidesign 192 A/D converter, recorded into Protools at 96k / 24bit.
I could use an album full of this material!

Posted - 12/08/2006 : 07:28:04 Yeah, the Bowie comparison that really strikes me is the video for 'Be My Wife'; a slightly madeup Bowie against a stark white background, playing a guitar. Brilliant. |

I thought the exact same thing, but then again Bowie > Frank / Bowie > Weiland. It looks like the video of Barbarella.
Awesome video really loved it! |

Posted - 12/08/2006 : 07:17:08 The video looks a bit like the Life on Mars video by Bowie and the raw arty feeling of ashes to ashes. He is moving his eyes in a very feminine way as well... Personnaly he reminds me a bit (and better) of Robert Smith.
