Posted - 09/26/2006 : 09:05:45 This just in: Brian is going to be flying to Saskatoon for the Nov. 7 Frank Black show where we will be hosting our 20th Podcast live. Why do you care? Because in Podcast 16, coming Oct. 1, we will be announcing a contest. The prize? A chance for you and one friend to meet Frank Black at the show. We'll be randomly drawing a few winners, so it should be a nice cozy group that have a chance to sit with - and who knows, maybe even hear a few songs from - the man. If there are enough people interested in attending this special show, we will also host a bit of a pre-show get together to meet other FB.Net members and fans. We hope to meet a bunch of you in Saskatoon this fall, and thanks to FB for participating!
NOTE: Obviously we aren't paying flights, etc. We can hardly afford to fly Brian out here as it is. :)

Ack, it should be done in Edmonton! Its a helluva boring drive to Saskatoon.:P It would be a cheap flight for me... __________ Aw geez, my duodenum's acting up.
I second this, Edmonton would be a much better choice. We can all swill Edmonton Berry wine and, like, totally chill at the mall. Maybe even chillax.

I hate meeting Frank Black. On the one lucky occasion it happened to me, about 10 years ago, before a show in Denver, here were my brilliant words to the man: "Frank Black!" He responded, "That's the guy," crossed the street with his guitar in hand, bought a drink at the 7-11, and wandered off. Every time I remember that, I think of about 1 trillion smarter things I could have said. But I was starstruck and that's all I could come up with. I hope never to repeat my lousy performance.

Posted - 09/28/2006 : 07:25:21 I suspect that's Saskatoon Berry Syrup, not maple (maple tends to come from the east). It's quite delicious.
That would be a long drive no matter who's on the other side, K. But a quick flight. :)

Posted - 09/28/2006 : 06:56:34 How many hours is the drive from Montreal if Carolyn and Dean and speedy and Brian and Frank are on the other side? How many hours/days off from work/kilometers/liters of Saskatoon Maple Syrup are we talking about?

Posted - 09/27/2006 : 13:49:11 Yeah, no pod required, broad desired. But yeah, you will need to listen at the very minimum to podcast 16 to enter. It might help you to listen to a few previous ones, too, but you could get by without. We will probably weight our random draw so that people who have the most answers have a better chance. Anything's possible with a little spreadsheet magic!

Posted - 09/27/2006 : 00:39:25 Saskatoon was founded here because of the location in the river valley being exceptional. It became a hub city with major railways intersecting here early on, and grew really quickly. They put the university here not long after, and the rest as they say... is history.
Regina, I'm less sure. It eventually grew and became capital, in part because we got the university and in part because it was more southerly, and then they got a few things like the RCMP training hq and whatever that helped it grow. They're actually smaller than Saskatoon.
That's about all I know in a nutshell on the topic.

Posted - 09/27/2006 : 00:18:22 Say Dean, what are Regina and Saskatoon's raison-d'etre?
I think one is on the N. Saskatchewan and one on the S. Saskatchewan, but are there intersecting rivers? Forts?
