By my mate Philippe Lagouche... I would have been very embarrassed if this one had mentioned Courtney Love! It turns out to be the most enthusiastic review I've read so far.

"The shadows of Neil Young and Bob Dylan loom large in the new Frank Black. Having come down from the Pixies pedestal, separated from the Catholics long enough to record in Nashville one of his most soulful albums, backed by legends (Steve Cropper, Spooner Oldham), all weathered session musicians.
Here he is, a better songwriter than ever. Humble and fragile, as concise as you ever could be. Going for the essential. A dauntless storyteller honoring the country-soul-blues tradition. Weaving, like a youthful Johnny Cash, fourteen vials brimming with emotion (including three covers), all of them heartbreaking ballads, already eternal. In a slow and peaceful voice, with acoustic guitars, stripped-down pianos, and beautiful singing at the service of a string of lovely melodies… This could very well be Mr. Black's own Harvest."

My evil twin would lie and steal
And he would stink of sex-appeal

*resists temptation to make French menstruation joke and further foul up this Frank-related thread*

A buddy of yours wrote that? Cool.

Harvest if one of my fave albums of all time, so to have HC compared to it is big.
