I downloaded the Nadine single (the one with Nadine and four live songs) onto my computer which has Dell Jukebox and the genre category for Nadine read "Gay".

Now, this is the same jukebox that lists "post/punk" for Black Letter Days, "general alternative" for Devil's Workshop, "indie" for the Brown Album, and "rock/pop" for Pistolero, Black Sessions, and the John Peel Sessions.

Who in the world comes up with this stuff anyway?

By the way, is there anyone gay on this forum?

I think that was the point of this topic, wasn't it?

Yeah, I heard they created this category for the release of the SpongeBob Movie soundtrack.

For what it's worth, I think "gay" IS one of the choices on Musicmatch's pull-down menu for genres.

Yeah, Vovat, my Dell Jukebox does say Musicmatch, and, when I recorded the Nadine CD onto my computer from the CD, Musicmatch recognized and automatically showed the CD, the title, the artist, the songs, and the genre ("Gay").

I found this to be somewhat interesting, but mainly stupid. The reason for me posting the topic was to see if anyone else had that same thing happen to them with the Nadine single, or with any other CD for that matter. Just as we have all commented on, who the hell has ever even heard of a genre category called "Gay".

Also, I found it to be similar to BLACK LETTER DAYS, when I loaded that CD onto my computer "End of Miles" came up as "God of Miles".

I think Dell Jukebox is a version of Musicmatch.

Yeah, I like what VoVat said on the other thread, " Yeah, when will they learn it's ALL freedom rock?", as well as Dayanara's accurate and humorus observation posted above concerning show-tunes and the subject matter of the lyrics to Nadine.

And, who really knows what "Genre" means anyway. It certainly hasn't come up in any conversations that I've had about music lately.

What VoVat said.

Yeah, I don't know why it came up. Like I posted earlier, just about each FB album has had a different genre automatically listed when I download from the original CD.

I remember seeing somewhere in the Forum a topic "God of Miles?" That's what End of Miles is listed on my Black Letter Days when I loaded it onto my computer.

I think its pretty unlikely to have come from the record label, to be honest...

I don't know about the Dell one - on Musicmatch Jukebox, if a CD you load isn't recognised, then it invites you to enter the track info as well as genre etc. So it's possible (if not probable) it hasn't come from any official source.

Maybe they're coming out with a new grammy category for "gay" music?

Anyway, as for the labeling of genre, do you think that may come from the record company or CD manufacturer, or is this something from Dell Jukebox? My guess is Dell Jukebox. Maybe its the same people that are complaining about Sponge Bob Square Pants.

And, yeah, Nadine, on the surface anyway, seems quite heterosexual.

I would think "Gay" as a genre would be more show-tuney and less banging-a-pale-chick-in-the-back-of-your-big-gray-car. But what the hell do I know.

How is "gay" a musical category anyway?
