Seems kinda strange to me -- but this date just showed up on Pollstar -- for Frank Black (solo).

http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searchall.pl?Content=A-FRABLA&StartSearch.x=14&StartSearch.y=11&Date_From=Today&Date_To=02-18-2006&By=Artist&PSKey=Y

And here's the venue's site:

http://www.theindependentsf.com/mar2004.htm

So I guess it's real. Hmmm...

the time that I posted this was just some minutes after 12 o' clock.
So it was the 9th of march here, but it was still the 8th in the US.
But I wasn't lying or anything, or wrong, or mistaken.

hey bobo,

what happened at the last show? this is the cobb comedy show?

Pants,

I am a huge FB fan (Pixies fan in their heyday-been there done that) and was hugely dissapointed in the Cobbs show a while back. I see Musicians for their music, not their conversation wit washed up has beeens.

I, like many other true FB fans will not be a lemming and go to a FB show for the sake of it. My time is way too valuable (note to Bobo)

I will however check out the Pixies show in Davis, Ca.

Late,
WS

Rykarda Parasol is the name

At the Cobb's show, Frank was not interested in talking about
the rumored reunion but there was quite a few folks that took
every quiet moment as an opportunity to shout "what about the
reunion" and then yell "play (insert Pixies song here)".

I cant find any decent flight to get down there from Toronto at this short notice, it seems. The best I can do is a *four* stopover flight. Brutal.

Maybe I'll fly standby and let the fates determine.

I won't be disappointed either way. I'm surprised it isn't sold out
either with all the Pixies hoopla going on but hopefully enough of
the assholes who showed up at his last SF show were disappointed
enough that they'll sit this one out.
kromkamp Posted - 03/03/2004 : 10:35:11
The pollstar site is the only site that says (Solo). The ticketweb site and the venue site just say 'Frank Black'. He couldnt very well call it ".. and the catholics" if it were really a secret Pixies show, could he?

I'd put the odds at 30% that this too is a Pixies show, which would make it the first one.

And I'm surprised its still not sold out!

Man, the damn place is 21+! If only I was six months older. Oh well, I've seen him in this format about six times already, I'm sure I'll get over it.

Floop,

I see where you were coming from. I'm just still a little bitter that FB is regressing with his Pixies tour. I'd feel the same way if Paul Westerberg announced a Mats reunion. Move on dudes, been there, done that....

"Rare" doesn't necessarily equate to "great". Roy Zimmerman's political folk songs were mind-numbing and ponderous (for my tastes).

I've seen FB live accoustically many times. I prefer the high octane Catholics shows with Frank's flopsweat and all.

i believe you (and everyone) that the Roy Zimmerman thing was lame. it sounded lame..

when i said the Roy Zimmerman thing was rare, i meant that that type of show was rare (the only time actually), and that that's a good thing. not that it was great becasue it was rare.

his solo shows though, other than that rare (not good) experience, are always stellar. that's all i'm sayin' g.

It's sold out. (Or at least Ticketweb didn't have any tickets available as of yesterday
afternoon.) I got mine yesterday morning though.

anyway its really him and this hall is tiny, so dont skip!

that's an order...that's an order.....

I too am a huge FB fan but after getting suckered into the solo "storytelling" show with Roy Zimmerman a few months back in SF, I will pass. I will reluctantly break down however and see FB with the Pixies on 5/29 in Davis, Ca. The Coachella show sounds like too much of a circus for me.

Still Jonesing for a Catholics show however...

fuck, if it was on a weekend i'd check it out.

i wonder if there's any chance that he'll be playing all pixies material, a la those early McCabes shows..

either way it's a must see. you guys are really lucky.
pants Posted - 02/22/2004 : 21:31:44
yeah going to get tickets, i was wondering if this was a warm up for the warm up and if the pixies would play or not. either way it should be fun.
beergeek Posted - 02/22/2004 : 18:04:11
Yeah, I got tickets too. I wonder if we'll see any special guests like occasionally happens when Frank comes to town???

That was a little easier to get tickets for than the last couple of days

Looking forward to seing FB there, hopefully it will be going ahead.
beergeek Posted - 02/20/2004 : 14:11:19
I think it's where the Justice League used to be. Not sure of the exact location. But it hasn't even opened up yet -- first show is next weekend -- part of Noise Pop.
Brackish Posted - 02/20/2004 : 14:03:58
Did the Independent used to be something else? It seems kinda strange that a brand new club opens up suddenly, lotta clubs in the city have gone outta business lately. Hotel Utah, Voodoo Lounge...Can't wait to see Frank Black again though!
beergeek Posted - 02/19/2004 : 11:52:06
I've been to a few of his one-off shows here in SF. And had tickets to at least 2 that were cancelled. Always enjoyable though.

The timing just seems strange -- a month before the first Pixies gig. Seems like he'd be all tied up with that.

But I'm planning on getting tickets. When he's playing solo he sometimes gets in a storytelling mood. That's always interesting.

Cheers,
Jeff
mrgrieves1971 Posted - 02/19/2004 : 11:44:31
He's always doing little gigs like this. Gotta check it out if you can.

And it is linked to the frankblack.net. I wonder if the man himself suggests that.
