Just wondering if anybody knows if Lyle Workman ever played on All My Ghosts live?

If so, when? And does any recording exist of it?

It's my favourite FB song and Lyle may be my favourite lead guitarist to have played with Frank so I was curious to find out if this ever happened. Apart from the first Catholics album I don't think I've ever heard this happen.

Thanks.

There are early 98 recordings out there somewhere, Stu. Could this be the one??

Also, I'm liking the brown text for All My Ghosts. Very apt.

>>When was the last time you played out?

A couple of weeks ago. We opened for Pearl Jam in the Northwest with our new guitar player [Rich Gilbert, formerly of Human Sexual Response]. He joined a few months ago; he's replacing Lyle. My agent and their agent are partners, so it might have been an inter-office kind of thing. Stone Gossard and Eddie Vedder I think are fans somewhat, and it may have come from them. I think the vibe on their whole tour has been obscure bands that they like from Seattle or wherever, or bands who were around before them.

Just checked, and this is All My Ghosts from the 1998 Northampton gig -- sound quality's not great:

However, after scanning through some of the other songs, I finally found that he announces during Czar, prior to the extended guitar-wank outro... "Rich Gilbert". Sorry!

Heh. True.

To deepen your wonder, Stu, this is a quote from Lyle's site:

quote:
Lyle was enlisted as a member of Todd Rundgren’s group, recording “Nearly Human” (1989) and “Second Wind” (1991) touring the U.S and Japan. He recorded with Jellyfish for ”Spilt Milk” (1993), and from 94 to 98 began a string of records and tours with Pixies founder and creative force Frank Black. Some of the recordings include “Teenager of the Year” and “Frank Black and the Catholics”

Lyle toured in 98?! The Gigography says:

March 20, 1997 - Los Angeles, CA, Sound City Studios [Frank Black & The Catholics] (studio)
March 21, 1997 - Los Angeles, CA, Sound City Studios [Frank Black & The Catholics] (studio)
March 22, 1997 - Los Angeles, CA, Sound City Studios [Frank Black & The Catholics] (studio)
Spring 1997? - Santa Barbara, CA, Toe's Tavern

1998 (notes and songs played 1998)

February 7, 1998 - San Francisco, CA, Trocadero {co-headlining with X}
February 24, 1998 - Los Angeles, CA, House of Blues {co-headlining with John Doe}
February 25, 1998 - San Diego, CA, 92.5 The Flash (radio)
February 25, 1998 - Solana Beach, CA, Belly Up Tavern {co-headlining with John Doe}
February 27, 1998 - San Francisco, CA, Bimbo's, Noise Pop Festival {co-headlining with John Doe}
February 28, 1998 - Los Angeles, CA, Palladium {co-headlining with X}
March 1, 1998 - Santa Cruz, CA, Palookaville {co-headlining with John Doe}
March 2, 1998 - Palo Alto, CA, The Edge {co-headlining with John Doe}
March 3, 1998 - Sacramento, CA, El Dorado {co-headlining with John Doe}
March 5, 1998 - Pomona, CA, Glass Eye {co-headlining with John Doe}
March 6, 1998 - Santa Barbara, CA, Coach House {co-headlining with John Doe}
March 7, 1998 - Santa Ana, CA, Galaxy Theater {co-headlining with John Doe}

et cetera, et cetera,..

I know there's a mention of when Rich Gilbert became a Catholic in one of the books some place.
I remember posting a comment about a sendmesomefb gig being maybe Lyle's last, but I can't seem to find it.

quote:
May 10, 1998 - Northhampton, MA, Pearl Street (incomplete) superabound / los angeles / all my ghosts / pong / czar / i gotta move / surf of mutilation / kicked in the taco / headache / six sixty six / abstract plain / dont ya rile 'em / adda lee / steak 'n' sabre

If you have this gig then does it sound like Lyle? I'd download it but Megaupload has gone tits up.
