Posted - 08/11/2009 : 16:46:39 hey Brackish, that is so cool you got to open up for the man.
do you remember any of the cool stories?
song requests are annoying. my cousin made one and black francis played it. it was cool but at the same time it was a little embarrassing that he said it (didn't yell it but still). but really, it's annoying for the audience, and for the performer. it's like hey, he's not a jukebox! |

Posted - 08/11/2009 : 08:50:28 What an awesome night. I still can't believe I got to open this show. The crowd seemed to like my songs okay, but opening for The Man was pretty nerve-wracking, I was more nervous for this show than I've been in years. It was the first time I had seem Vamos solo, and also most of the stuff from that last two Black Francis releases. Lolita solo was really nice, as was Angels Come to Comfort You. He told quite a few stories about the origins/meanings of the songs that were pretty interesting. But people kept yelling out song requests which was annoying him, leading to no encore. Great show.

Posted - 08/10/2009 : 05:54:12 I'd have loved to have seen those shows he did with Dave Philips, a good few years ago now!
Bit strange that no new songs have found their way into sets in over a year and a half (not counting GD shows, of course). |

Posted - 08/09/2009 : 23:10:05 That sounds like one of the best shows yet. I love those solo shows, but it's great to have some other instrumentation too now and then. |

Posted - 08/09/2009 : 20:32:29 I know that he played Jane at the crepe place in santa cruz a few months back as my brother reported it was a highlight of the show. I haven't seen him play that in years to I hope it's played in LA in a few days. |

The theme of this show was allegedly "Sunday School".
Great to see Eric Drew Feldman on the ivories and some great versions of songs like "Get Away Oil". |
