My take,

The good:
-Small venue with pretty good acoustics
-Long set with great smattering of FB, Pixies, and BF tunes
-No long opening bands
-We stood at the edge of the balcony (no seats available)
-FB drinking red wine from a wineglass with the bottle resting on a bar stool next to him.

The bad:
-Not enough space to relax-very cramped
-FB's wine choice-it was a Cline Cab or Zin that goes for $ 8 bucks a bottle tops. C'mon Pilgrim, treat your vocal cords to something better for chrissakes...
-Sax player kinda stepped on FB's vocals during 'Angels come'. Good experiment but I bet he didn't return Saturday.

The ugly:
-jackass yelling shit from balcony. A few threats quieted him as well as his Jager buzz was wearing off.

-WS

Oh, Ralph Carney? Awesome.

I didn't jot down a list because I saw a couple other people doing it, but apparently then didn't post it. Here's a partial list not in order:
Pixies tunes:
Holiday Song, Nimrod's Son, Where is My Mind, Cactus, Mr. Grieves, Crackity Jones, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Wave of Mutilation, Velouria,
Pre-Catholics:
Los Angeles, Two Reelers, Calistan
Catholics:
Bullet, The Swimmer (aborted near the end due to muffed lyrics), Robert Onion, I'll Be Blue, California Bound (aborted after two lines, complaints about crowd talking), Horrible Day, Goodbye Lorraine, Masif Centrale, Manitoba, New House of the Pope (I think)
Post:
Sing For Joy, I Burn Today, Dead Man's Curve, Shrimp Song, Get Away Oil, The Water, Tight Black Rubber, Lolita, She Took All the Money, Angels Come to Comfort You, When They Come to Murder Me, Burnt Out Rock n' Roll

There was a sax player on a few songs (Fred Carney?). I think at least one of the Bluefinger tunes and definitely Get Away oil.

Eric Drew Feldman played on the last two songs which were Calistan and I'll Be Blue.

My brother went friday night and said it rocked. Frank Played from 10:40 till 1Am. Opened with 2 reelers and EDF sat in for a bit at the end. I'll have a report for the LA shows that I'm going to.
Ziggy Posted - 08/09/2009 : 09:13:17

Yeah, doesn't EDF play bass for Brackish or something?

Nothing is ever something.
Ziggy Posted - 08/08/2009 : 01:21:25
Apparently EDF appeared!

Recordnet.com - Best of the Bay -- Published August 6, 2009.

Black Francis: It's a bit of a whirlwind to follow the career of Black
Francis (a.k.a. Frank Black) outside of his famed days as frontman
of the Pixies. Francis spent much of his time performing with Frank
Black and the Catholics and solo as Frank Black, sandwiching the
Pixies' ballyhooed 2004 reunion between. Now going under the
name Black Francis again, the singer's solo work follows in the
freak punk, off-the-cuff indie alt-rock styles that have already
secured his place in rock and roll history. This weekend's pair of
solo acoustic performances offer a chance to see him in a stripped
down environment in an impossibly intimate venue, but you'd better
make sure you've got tickets in advance. 9 p.m. Friday and
Saturday. Hotel Utah, 500 Fourth St., S.F. $20.

Anyone have an extra ticket for either of these??? I'll be in town from Philly for the weekend and REALLY want to be there. I haven't seen FB in a million years.

Wow! I just found out I am opening Saturday night's show! To say that I am overjoyed would be an understatement. I am flippin out! Mr. Black Francis has had such a huge impact on the way I write music and even the way I listen to music. Please try to get there early and say hi if you're going to the Saturday show. See ya.

Anyone have any spare tickets?

The Pixies have just announced a tour to
celebrate the 20th anniversary of their classic
"Doolittle" CD that will hit Oakland's gorgeous Fox
Theater on Nov. 8 and 9. (Full disclosure: My first
interview as a journalist was with Pixies bassist
Kim Deal when "Doolittle" came out.) To get
warmed up, I suggest you check out Pixies lead
singer Black Francis (aka solo artist Frank Black)
on Friday and Saturday as he plays a solo acoustic
show featuring material from throughout his
illustrious career. He'll be at Hotel Utah, 500 Fourth
St., San Francisco. Tickets for the 9 p.m. shows are
$20 at www.ticketweb.com.

Both shows are sold out, save for a few tickets at the door. Ugh. I wish I had gotten on this sooner.
