Right you are floop, nobody can match that voice -- angelic falsetto to psychotic banshee and everything in between.
Mrs. BLT and I also got tired of standing. After Cactus we went back near the ATM and found a couple of chairs.

gf and i enjoyed the show. i'm glad that The Mint didn't have the "dinner theatre" set up they had last time i was there, with big tables in front of the stage with people eating dinner, and then the rest of the crowd standing behind them. that sucked
i guess i'm becoming an old man but i'm getting to the point where i really don't enjoy standing in a crowded room with strangers. i almost prefer the assigned-seating venues that i used to detest..
anyway, the show was great, though he started off really slow. i've only seen Frank have a really off night once in all the times i've seen him, and the first few songs of last night reminded me of that . i thought he was really phoning it in. but then something must have clicked because he started kicking serious ass (i think it all clicked in with Calistan) .. he succeeded in reminding me why i've been such a huge fan all these years.
for me highlights were Calistan, Veloria, All My Ghosts (how can you ever go wrong with All My Ghosts?), Angels, Massif, Lolita, Gouge Away.. that's a lot of highlights.
i always like the solo performances the best, and this one was no exception. i'm glad my gf got to experience the raw power of just him and his guitar. she said she couldn't believe he was getting that much sound with just one guitar, and, of course, his voice is like no other. i think that show finally ended the silly debate about who is better, Nick Cave or Frank and she finally had to admit that Nick Cave can't hold a candle to Frankie
i saw BLT's head in the crowd a foot above everyone else but sadly didn't get a chance to say hello

All in all, it was a pretty good show. I was hoping for more tunes from the first 3 solo records (nothing was played from self-titled or cult of ray, although there were some good selections from TOTY), and there was a little too much of Bluefinger stuff for my liking (maybe because I've seen him a couple times in the past couple of years, and am a bit tired of those ones), but overall it was great. Super small venue, really good crowd. Mr. Francis seemed to be a little light on the banter tonight, and he seemed to play a slightly shorter set tonight (just over an hour and 15 mins). I wish I could've seen last night's show too, but this was fun. I'd be interested to hear from those who saw both nights how the shows compared to each other.
I also recorded a junky recording of the show. It's clipping all over the place and very low quality, but if anyone's interested I could post some stuff.

TOTY origin story: He was the only blond kid in school (being from CA moving to MA). Thus he was awarded the TOTY prize (a medal, certificate and $50) at a ceremony with the Kiwanis. His younger brother was awarded TOTY the following year. His mother still apparently wears the medal daily. he neglected to say if there was a crown, cape and flowers involved...
Tonights show had much less banter. he kept saying "anecdote, anecdote, anectode...I can't think of anything." Alternate songs (from last night) california bound, abstract plain, calistan. when they come to murder me and velouria were played both evenings. |

He did mention that he spent the day in the studio recording (in reference to Burnt out rock and roll) so hopefully there will be a studio version of this tune coming soon. |

Opened with Los Angeles, 2 Reelers aborted (not in order) all my ghosts, bullet, headache, nimrod, wimm, ramona, burnt out rock and roll, the water, lolita, angels come to comfort you, she took all the money, wave of mutilation, gouge. more but can't recall at the moment. set was approx 1 1/2 hrs. a bit of witty banter. toty origin story. 3 stooges worship etc... all and all an entertaining show. I'm looking forward to this evening. |

So disappointed the shows were announced late. Supposed to leave LA on the 6th. Wish I could afford to stay longer but accommodation is a killer. Especially at the Mondrian hhaha. Maybe I will fly to San fran for the weekend shows.
