So I called the venue and AAARGH! there is no opening act. FB expected at 8:10 or 8:15. Gonna be a tough make from 2.5 hours away starting at 6:00...traffic gods please help!
Previous shows have given me the impression that Black is a pretty punctual guy...Frank can you give me an extra 10 minutes? thanks

'Knuffeljunk' indeed. Cuddlejunkie pretty much sums it up. Some people I know thought Herman Brood was a fool, and maybe he was, but his work was met with respect and to the public eye he was always a nice man. He was very funny too.

Was a bit bummed to not have an encore, but I suppose that's the way he does it sometimes.

Yes, Lolita was a pleasant surprise...not sure why but I didn't think he'd play that live. Same with She Took All The Money (later). But both were good. You didn't miss Tight Black Rubber by much, but I'm afraid the blame will have to rest with a traffic light and not your parking quandary.
I listened to the other person's posting of TBR and it sounded similar to last night...hopefully a reasonable facsimile for you to live with!

Tight Black Rubber! AARGH! My favorite Bluefinger song. Did he play this right before "Angels"? Did my flail on the parking situation cost me Tight Black Rubber?!? I didn't think he'd play this in a solo show, how would it sound without the bass?

The second mention of cuddle-junkie was a bit muffled for me...can't help shed any light there.

Before "When they come to murder me" he said his wife told him he needs to play this song (in general), becuase "that is a good one". He said he was going to listen to her becuase she is always right. He went on to make a playful, annoyed gesture about the frustrations of women always being right

another anecdote was about Herman Brood, how the Dutch have a word that describes him that Frank didn't know how to translate, but was sort of like "cuddle junkie", which i took to mean a junkie who is still beloved and people want to look after (Frank talked a bit about how he was much loved in Holland). Anyway, he repeated the "cuddle junkie" term a couple times.
Later, he referred to someone else as a "cuddle"-something...can't quite bring that story back. Hickster, how did that one go?

Made it safely there and back. I won't say I was speeding, but I got there in 2:14 while it took me 2:35 to get home!
Don't know what time the show started...I walked in at 8:44. I entered to applause, right at the end of a song, and the next thing that Frank launched into was Angels Come to Comfort You. For all I knew, I might only be there for the last 15 minutes of an hour-long set, but still, getting this song first, I already knew it was worth it. Frank hasn't made the east coast since 2006, so I've never seen a Bluefinger song. Anyway, great "opener", and what do you know...from there he played an awesome 1:33 and a whopping 22 songs! So, yes, VERY worth it.
Here's the partial setlist...anyone who knows what he played before then, I'd love to know. Or maybe not, it'll probably bum me out when I see it. [now edited to include beginning]

Highlights for me were Angels and Massif Centrale...somehow over 12-15 shows I had never managed to catch Massif Centrale, so I was fired up about that [edit: upon reflection, 6 shows post SMYT]. Truth is, everything sounded fantastic, even Song of the Shrimp!
Francis was pretty chatty, talked about how he loved Perry Mason (so polite) and the 3 Stooges. Said he finally figured out that Goodbye Lorraine was about his therapist. He said that "Burnt Out Rock and Roll" has been a mantra for him over the last couple of years. And he remembered Duane Jarvis, who he said was with him onstage while they played Sing For Joy.
I can never bring myself to shout out requests, but it worked for Calistan. He said he'd try but might have to abort...also that there's a lot of muscle memory that goes into these things. He made it through that one great. For a half-second I thought about shouting out "Western Star", then realized how foolish I'd look if I called out something he'd already played!
A few more notes...Burnt Out Rock and Roll has evolved, it sounded a lot different than it did 3 years ago (although I can't really say how). The Two Reelers version was funky and very cool...I don't know if "staccato" is the right word for the guitar playing on this song...choppy? it was good.
The Avalon was tiny (capacity 380?). I came so late I didn't look around much but a nice venue. Frank said he really enjoyed playing there.
Really torn up that I can't make a Grand Duchy show this weekend (then again, if I'd been able to make a Grand Duchy show I probably wouldn't have driven all the way to Easton!). Hopefully it won't be long before the East Coast gets some more service...maybe PHILLY next time!

What a wonderful venue. Never had been there, and sorry, I'm dense when it comes to working a phone to get a picture...so no pics.
Anyway, it was in an old vaudeville theatre, somebody said it holds 400, but I don't imagine there were that many there. Everyone sat in chairs, I on the right side (as you look at Charles/Frank/Black), in row 2, next to some nice fellow from Connecticut.
Here's my attempt at a setlist, certainly not in order, more a stream of consciousness of what I remember. Didn't hang out much to look for other forumers...needed sleep, with a drive ahead of me (albeit shorter than sasquatch)
