Posted - 06/17/2009 : 15:37:39 At Frank's first show (with the Frank Black Experience, May 27, 1993, in Eugene, OR), he plays a song, or just a verse or two, during the encore that I haven't heard before or since. He sings about everybody joining the union. That's not a very good description of it but that's the best I can do. Does anyone know the title of this song? I'm guessing he didn't perform it at any other shows... |

Posted - 06/22/2009 : 13:13:00 methinks you're right -- the cd that someone awesome gifted me years ago said it was from lawrence, but yeah it was only played/recorded the one time, so bbc it is that being said lemme look at the disk to see if other "lawrences" are there, though for certain there is no whole show, if there are any at all... sorry bout that.

Posted - 06/18/2009 : 07:20:05 The lyrics: This is the ballad of Lucas McGraw [Frank asks, "This is a union hall, right?"] He was a union man And he fought for his wife and his kids and his life And all his union friends too HEY! What'd they want? Union! We want union, We want union, We want union, Across the land, union! We want union, We want union, You and me, You and me, You and me. Hey!

Posted - 06/18/2009 : 04:38:55 It sounds a lot like The Black Dragon Heads West (but looks East), which I think has only been played once or twice and was recorded during the Gary Smith session.
The Duke of Earl is an amazing song, by the way. Frank's got a lot of kick ass b-sides actually.
The Ballad of Lucas McGraw? I've never heard that! Can someone hook me up?
