Yes!! I went .....it was incredible. First of all the saloon itself is such a cool place the bar is a turn of the century beautiful mahogany bar. The room itself( i have a few poor pics that i'll post later) is indeed as bonedry stated "smaller than my brain". BF came out with a bottle of wine and electric guitar in tow. He was wearing an old plaid flannell shirt and BLACK sunglasses. He rocked the place......at one point he asked how much we paid.....the crowd answered "20 dollars" he said he would have to play "20 songs, .99 cents a song"......I think he played more. At first I thought he was drinking a beer but realized he was drinking off a wine bottle .....he got loose and the sound was raw. He played a lot of songs from his entire body of work, Pixies, Frank Black, Black Francis Bluefinger.....I didn't write a setlist down but can remember a bunch of the songs he played .....(this list is in no particular order) :

Keep in mind this place was TINY.....it was like being in someone's garage....

Here's my out of order incomplete list:

He did start with "I Burn Today"
Bluefinger
Velouria
Angels come to comfort you
Wave of Mutilation
All my Ghosts
test Pilot Blues
Sister Isabel
Cactus
Sir Rockaby
Headache
Space is gonna do me good
Brackish Boy
I'll Be Blue
She Took All The Money
Your Mouth Into Mine
Bullet
Massif Centrale
Horrible Day
Manitoba
Holiday Song
Nimrod's Son
Tight Black Rubber
The Water
Dead man's Curve

I'll post a couple of my not so good pics later.....
Wow!!! If BF is reading, thanks so much you never cease to amaze and inspire me!!

That setlist looks great, except he opened with Los Angeles and closed with Broken Face and I don't remember Manitoba. But that could just be me.
The show was really good. Loved seeing Frank drinking straight from the wine bottle. He seemed to be in a great mood and happy to be playing there. He mentioned that he'd played Hotel Utah before, but I don't remember that. Anyone?

moksha23x: Thanks - I took about 50 pics - almost all of them were two blurry.

Daisy Girl: Spoke to the promoter - said they sold out at 100 tickets.

Hotel Utah is even smaller than Cafe Du Nord if I remember correctly. My band played there once back in the day. It has a cool balcony to watch from. The music room really is like a tiny little saloon - all hardwood and antique furniture and stuff.

There's not much space for a band, so I bet it'll be like FB playing solo in your living room type of thing.

Qu'ils aillent se faire foutre <-- yeah, what he said.

i bet it'll be a little of both.. the solo shows are always the best in my opinion. and solo electric rules. you should go darwin

SF is certainly showing some Frank love lately. 3 shows last week, and now another solo show.

maybe Frank will play McCabes? maybe? maybe?
darwin Posted - 10/16/2007 : 00:10:39
Wow, what do you think a solo Black Francis show would be? Bluefinger songs? Pixies songs? Acoustic? Electric? I doubt I'll be going, but it is intriguing.
