Just got back from Belgium... a great few days getting twisted on booze and whatnot... and seeing some of the greatest bands on the planet.

Frank was very different this time... a completely new image. This is the 5th time I have seen him, and he always has his guitar strapped to him. This time the guitar didn't make it, so he just stomped around the stage like a crazy animal. Actually, I think in some ways this could be the best I have seen Frank... his presence was much more animated. During Rockerfella Skank he was screaming whilst lying on the floor... and at one point he seemed to be simulating doggy style sex repeatedly whilst the band played. Much more punky as to be expected with the style of Bluefinger. I also really liked the look of the new band... Charles N did a great job on the guitar, and the bass player Simon Archer looked impressive too, not to forget the drummer Jason. Well done lads.

Not sure if this is news yet as I haven't checked the other forum posts, but apparently Violet was supposed to be on this tour but had to pull out due to being pregnant again... so a huge congrats to both again.

I was delighted to hear a number of the Bluefinger tunes, but slightly dissapointed to not hear 'You Mouth into Mine.' Still, the new songs sound great, and the old songs were brilliant too. The crowd didn't really jump around much despite being a pretty heavy set, but I put this down to being day 4 of the festival when the vast majority of the punters are worn out. I was also pleasantly surprised that Frank only concentrated on solo stuff and left out Pixies stuff...

Anyway... I have a lot to say and my mind is in a mess so I will carry on. After the gig my little sister wanted to head to the Pyramid stage, so my mate and I sat around outside and had a few beers. Whilst we were sitting around talking nonsense I looked up and saw Charles N and Simon standing around chatting. Half drunk, I wandered over and shook their hands congratulating them on a great set. I was expecting them to give the 'thanks mate' then turn their backs but they both struck up a conversation with us and we chatted with them for quite a while over a few beers. They were good blokes... they mentioned the forum, and I gave them my name.. and they told me that there had been some criticism on here about the shortness of recent Franks live acts. They were really down to earth guys. They also mentioned that they don't actually have a set list. Frank has given them a load of songs to play, and then just tells them what to play inbetween songs, which is quite impressive. So, if you read this Charles and Simon, it was great chatting to you guys... I'll put the photo I took up of you both trying to throttle me once I get back to China as it is quite amusing.

The setlist as far as I can remember is below, but it is not in the correct order. It was a great hour, an hour that I had been looking forward to for a long time... brilliant stuff from Frank and the band.

I love Metallica but they do come across as a bunch of egotistical wankers... 'Some Kind of Monster' proves that they are still little boys with toys. Right, please can someone tell me how I can get my Werchter pics onto this thread? Jetlag has hit me badly this time around... I have just sat down in my living room today feeling so bored but being too fucked to do anything about it.

Hi Piet! It doesn't matter that it was taken on a phone, it's a great shot of those guys just chilling out!

Metallica's roadies sound like ignorant morons. That kind of rock star shit pisses me off.

"Aw yeah, that's the good stuff!"

"Metallica needs this room so you have to fuck off now"

"Elke vorm van elementaire beleefdheid werd daarbij gemakshalve overgeslagen: Metallica needs this room so you have to fuck off now", aldus Steenhaut op de website van De Morgen. "Dat soort arrogantie kom je alleen bij domme Amerikanen tegen. De attitude van de entourage zegt ook veel over de persoonlijkheid van de groep", aldus Frank Black.

Quick translation: Sunday afternoon, an incident occurred backstage at Rock Werchter between Frank Black, former singer of the Pixies, and roadies of Metallica.

While Bart Steenhaut, journalist from De Morgen, interviewed Frank Black in his own interview room, Black got kicked out by the entourage of the metalband Metallica. "Every form of elementary politeness got 'skipped': Metallica needs this room so you have to fuck off now", says Steenhaut on De Morgen's website. "You'll only find this kind of arrogance in stupid Americans. The attitude of the entourage tells a lot about the personality of the band", according to Frank Black

I have to go now, haven't listened to this entirely yet, but here's an Interview, where Chuck talks about his wife's pregnancy and Bluefinger, Herman Brood and his family

Here's the article and pics of the interview

....and a camera ;-) !! I was a member of the "crew" @ Werchter, otherwise it is not possible to go in the backstage, so i spend 4 days of my life just to meet FB....and it turned out very well as you can see! Of course this was a quick meet, just enough to get an autograph and the pictures above, but i did it(and i'm very proud of that ;-)By the way: here a couple of pics from the show!

Did 'nt you forget "the black rider" on your list...? I thougt i heard that to.. He really was amazing on this gig....I was very lucky to meet him after the werchter-show...

I was at Werchter too - only for Frank Black! (yes 200 euros for a 60 minute set but what the heck, I was in Belgium anyways).

I really enjoyed the energy of the set, but I have to say that Frank may need to do some extra vocal conditioning if he wants to keep up that pace for the next year+ of touring. His voice was really breaking up for most of the show, and Threshold Apprehension in particular sounded really bad vocally.

Freedom Rock never sounded better, though. And Los Angeles with the new arrangement brings a fresh sound to this song.

I do have a full video clip of Thalassocracy, as well as the first verse+chorus of Threshold and a small chip of Rockafeller skank. I'll try to find a suitable way to host them in the next day or two.

Cheers!

Gonna have to post the photos when I get back to China on Friday morning as I am having a few probs with my Uncles computer. Will do it as soon as I get back though.

Bluefinger? What Bluefinger? I've heard no Bluefinger, Ding.

Definately post the photos. And if you haven't already, check the Toulouse thread. Joey Joe has uploaded a great version of Freedom Rock.

It was the first time I have heard Freedom Rock at a gig, so I was pleasantly surprised at how great it sounded. I kept on getting people looking over at me during the whole set because I was singing / screaming along to pretty much every song.

Hang on, I am going to try and find out how to post my pics of the gig on this website. I have some cool ones of Frank and a great one of me being attacked by Charles and Ding after the gig... (should never have told them that I have a downloaded copy of Bluefinger). BRB.

Nice, Stuart. Sounds like you got well and truly Frank Black'd.

I feel your slight disappoint regarding the absence of "Your Mouth..". I hope I get to hear it.
Then again, if it's a case of Freedom Rock vs. Your Mouth, I'd want Freedom Rock everytime.
